Top 5 Bollywood Actresses in 2015- Picked by Shoby

Top 5 Bollywood Actresses in 2015- Picked by Shoby

Moving to the third episode of my series "Top 5 performers of Bollywood in the year 2015", in this feature I'll discuss about my picks regarding top 5 female performers in the films this year. We have seen some spectacular performances in 2015 from female protagonists and even in some movies we have seen these heroines almost outclassing their male counter parts. Women in today's films are no more sort of an ice candy, rather they are playing some solid author packed meaningful roles with memorable characters. Let me tell you my most favorites of the year.

Number 5: (Bhumi Pednekar in Dum Laga Ke Haisha)- The most surprising hit of the year Sharat Kataria's Dum Laga Ke Haisha totally changed the concept of a typical Bollywood heroine. There was an era when people wanted only slim smart, size zero heroine dancing here & there as Bhumi played a role of a healthy (read bulky/ fat) wife of a young man from 90's. She played this unconventional character with awesome ease and no doubt this film shines because she gave one of the best performance from any female in recent times.

Number 4: (Tabu in Drishyam): She played the role of a police officer in Nishikant Kamat's Drishyam with utmost authenticity. It was such a solid performance where she portrayed almost two layers of a character, one of a police woman investigating a lost person & in the mean time mother of a lost teenager. She was natural in every frame and therefor deserves due appreciation for her performance.

Number 3: (Priyanka Chopra in Bajirao Mastani)- Though Priyanka had a bit less to play whereas Deepika enjoyed the limelight in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus Bajirao Mastani, even then whenever she got the opportunity, she grabbed it with both hands. She did a phenomenal job while portraying character of Matathi warrior's wife Kashi Bai. Her dialogue delivery was superb especially in the last part of the movie, she gave her best.

Number 2: (Kangana Ranavat in Tanu Weds Manu Returns)- Anand L Rai's Tanu Weds Manu Returns is without any doubt one of the best Rom-Com of Bollywood in recent times. With powerful performances from the entire cast, this film had one of the most sincere scripts & excellent dialogues with engaging sequences. It is valid to say that Kangana gave her career best in this film as she literally outclassed everyone whenever she came to the screen. She stole the show single handedly in front of a bunch of great performers.

Best Actress of 2015: (Deepika Padukone in Bajirao Mastani)- Year 2015 was another exciting year for Deepika Padukone where she emerged as the most celebrated actress of Bollywood. Her performances in Piku & Tamasha were not only critically acclaimed but also appreciated by the cine goers. However the role of Mastani that she played in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani is her best attempt in acting. She brought the required volume of grace, passion and grandness in her avatar, while delivering dialogues and danced like a real diva. She truly deserves the top position this year.

Having discussed about the above listed artists, some other female artists have also shown their mettle on screen. Akshara Haasan debuted in R Balki's Shamitabh and how beautifully she has played her role. She should have been given awards as the best debutante. Kareena Kapoor had a lesser role to play in Bajrangi Bhaijan but she did it with grace. A special mention is due to the charming little princess Baby Harshaali Malhotra. This wonderful kid left everyone in a shock with her flawless performance of a deaf & mute child. Vidya Balan was good in Humari Adhuri Kahani. Kajol & Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made comebacks in Dilwale & Jazbaa respectively and needless to say, they brought their signature flavor in the films. Anushka Sharma was also pitch perfect in her own production NH 10.
