Dilwale- Movie Review by Shoby

Dilwale- Movie Review by Shoby

2.5 Hearts out of 5

Rohit Shetty the man behind most of the Bollywood blockbusters including Golmal & Singham series and a couple of years old SRK starrer (200 crore plus grosser) Chennai Express knows a perfect recipe of making mass entertainers. His films are stylish and attract audience in bulks. When film maker of such a calibre joins hands with the cherished couple of Shahrukh Khan & Kajol it thrashes the thermometer of expectations and same was the case with the expectations attached to his December 18th 2015 release Dilwale.

First thing first, do not expect Einstein's equation as this film is yet again a typical Rohit Shetty's cinema, with all the essential ingredients of a perfect masala entertainer targeted towards masses.

Life makes two lovers meet again after a long period of 15 odd years. They were separated initially by luck and brought back in front of each other by love of another couple (their younger siblings). This was the storyline of this much awaited biggie. Now let's analyze, how Rohit Shetty presented the story.

Let me admit it is probably the weakest script on which Rohit Shetty has worked till date and at places it looks like it was made in a rush, just to tap the everlasting chemistry betwenn SRK & Kajol. Both of these seasoned actors have done a remarkable job and have done their parts with such an ease, however nothing special is visible here. Varun Dhawan & Kriti Sanon are pleasure to watch. This sweet young couple has a magical chemistry.

I must say that veteran actors like Johny Lever & Boman Irani have been brutally wasted with nothing much to do, except just to fill the blank spaces of story board's timeline. Sanjay Mishra is a delight to watch and once again he has shown his brilliance. Each time he has emerged on screen, he has managed to steal the show all alone.

Music is good, with Pritam in charge of the department. My picks are Janam Janam, although Gerua is a chart buster too. Both of these numbers are choreographed with utmost grace. Manma Emotion is a useless number which comes from no where in the middle of the script. First half is engaging where story begins to unfold, however second half of the film is a lacklustre and looks stretched for the sake of nothing.

Apart from just a couple of punches, this film lacks the quality that Rohit Shetty's films possess in terms of dialogues & one liners. Certain cliches are used in the script which make it look like a real mediocre one.

Cinematography is no doubt at par and beauty of Goa & Bulgaria is presented in an awesome manner. Fight sequences are once again having Rohit Shetty's signature on them but they also lack the solid execution if we compare them to his previous releases.

On the whole, Dilwale is a disappointment even if we compare it to Rohit Shetty's previous projects. A mediocre script & unconvincing screenplay spoils the show. Watch it only if you are a die-hard fan of Shahrukh, Kajol or Rohit's cinema.
