Lollywood Round-up for Year 2015- Special Feature by Shoby
After a long hiatus, it is safe to say that our very own Pakistani film industry Lollywood is now crawling on the right track. With the injection of fresh blood and advent of new faces in both production & execution, our film industry has at last found a sigh of relief. As families & friends are started having some quality time in cinemas so a cinema culture is re-evolving in Pakistan now.
It is also a pertinent aspect to notice that the primary concern of the audience is to watch a good quality product regardless of the country of its origin. Therefore, it is quite a bit of satisfaction for our Pakistani film makers that people have given local films first priority & more attention as compared to their Bollywood & even Hollywood counter parts, given they found the film good enough to watch.
Commercial & critical success of films like Jawani Phir Nahi Aani, Bin Roye, Moor, Jaliabee, 3 Bahaadur & Halla Gulla has played an instrumental role in boosting up the confidence of Pakistani film makers. No doubt we have the best of the talent in our country and the only requirement is to tap it to its fullest.
This year watched introduction of some experimental or first time production sort of cinema in Lollywood. Waadi Animations with the partnership of media giant ARY Films made Pakistan's first ever animated movie 3 Bahaadur and with an excellent marketing strategy directed towards children, it attracted quite a great volume of families who came & enjoyed the film with their children.
After a long time, a film was made on a super hit novel (Bin Roye Aansoo written by Farhat Ishtiaq). Shahzad Kashmiri with another big media outlet HUM TV producer/ director Momina Duraid came up with film version of the novel titled as Bin Roye starring TV celebrities including Humayun Saeed & Mahira Khan. This film was liked by families and even with a strong competition at box office emerged as a big success.
Shah- a sports based movie was also launched telling story of an unsung hero ( a boxer). This year also witnessed art & off beat cinema. Another big name in TV entertainment Geo TV's product Manto, directed by Sarmad Sultan Khoosat, who also played the lead role in it was based on the biography & literary work of prolific writer Saadat Haasan Manto sb and it was acclaimed & applauded by critics praising its supreme quality content.
Jami released his much awaited movie Moor in 2015 and it also attracted a portion of audience. It was a sleek & stylish film with novel techniques of story telling.
Almost at the end of the year, it was all about laugh riots. Pakistan's first ever solid entertainer Halla Gulla & biggest grosser Jawani Phir nahi Ani weer released on the same day and JPNA smashed the box office records courtesy some great marketing & promotions done by ARY Films and its star cast with huge fan following). Halla Gulla was also a solid brainless comedy that was liked by the viewers as the cine goers were laughing in the theatres like anything.
So overall, this year was much more positive & motivating for Pakistan's film industry and with some more good projects comping up our way, we can assume that Lollywood is now walking on the proper track. Although, there is a long way to go ahead.
Best of Luck Pakistan and Lollywood. Cheers :-)
