Ballu Mahi (2017)- Music Review by Shoby

Ballu Mahi (2017)- Music Review by Shoby

Haissam Hussain is ready for his upcoming romantic-comedy titled as Ballu Mahi, starring Osman Khalid Butt, Ainy Jaffri and Sadaf Kanwal in prominent roles. Original sound track of the film has recently been released and its our time at Shobywood to have a taste of what this one has in it for us. Music of thie film has been composed by Sahir Ali Bagga.

Rang De Qawali (Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Nazish)- What should be called as a perfect starter for a musical album, this qawali track is a beautiful song that has the feel of our traditional sufi-qawali lyrics Ankhen band Karu To MOLA... TERA MADEENA Aa Jawey... simply takes you away. Right from the word go, this qawali instantly manages to  grab your attention. Sung by the legendary qawal/ singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, this qawali has almost everything that is mandatory for a perfect qawali session. A small portion of Nazish was pitched good enough in between the song to give it a taste of more of a soothing sort of feel.

Balu Mahi (Asim Azhar, Aima Baig)-The title track of the movie comes right after the superb qawali. This foot tapping, peppy dance number is high on energy with mix of Anglo-Urdu lyrics. The track would surely do good in credits or somewhere within the narrative of the film.

Be Chaniyan (Afshan Fawad, Sahir Ali Bagga). A typical Sahir Ali Bagga's composition sung by his own self along with Afshan Fawad, this song starts off like a beautiful slow & steady composition and picks up the pace as the time progress. Afshan has given an excellent warm feel to this track. I personally loved the beautiful usage of guitar & a bit of tabla at the very beginning of the song.

Tu Kya Jane (Sahir Ali Bagga)- As per norms, here we have the soft melody from Sahir which is again sung by himself. This soulful number has some very nice lyrics which effortlessly make your loved one realise, how intense your love is. This composition has the feel of those beautiful sad tracks that takes you somewhere else in nostalgia.

On the whole, it is a very nice album where the team of musician, lyricist & director has tried to put in the flavour of the whole film Ballu Mahi in minimal number of songs. It is interesting to notice that they have managed to provide us a nice mix of different genres in mere four tracks.

Khayal Yaar Book (Sumaira Hameed)- Introduction by Shoby

Khayal Yaar- A Book by Sumaira Hameed- (Introduction by Shoby)

Those who have read my reviews on stories Khayal Yaar and Main Bint e Jameela... know how beautiful these two stories were written by Sumaira Hameed. Those who have read the stories themselves are going bowled over by the writing prowess of the author. But what about those who have not yet read any of the stories from this excellent book.

Let me tell you guys that the Book (Khayal Yaar) is a collection of six magnificent stories from the critically acclaimed author of Yaaram, Borshay, Wali, RAB ul Bashar and recently launched Ishq, Amad o Mann. These six stories show us many different personality traits and behaviours of we the human beings. They tell us, how the society moulds us and how we react to the situations. These stories are not preachy, rather they are written to awake our consciousness. And the best thing is, these stories are not alien to us. They are extracted from our very own living society. They have got strong lessons for us. Lesson that must be learnt by us to make our lives better.

Out of these six, two stories have already been reviewed by me and the reviews are available at the blog Shobywood. Reviews on other stories are coming soon at the blog but I know there is one thing we all hate... and that is waiting....

So I highly recommend, do not waste your time in waiting and visit Sumaira Hameed's official Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/sumaira.hameed.author/ to get the book delivered right at your doorstep.

Art like this demands from us to be celebrated and therefore I highly recommend my readers to get their own copy of Khayal Yaar, right away... This story collection is a must have in your library... Stay blessed everyone...

Nemrah Ahmed's Namal Only At Zanjabeel...

Nemrah Ahmed's Namal Only At Zanjabeel...

I was (personally) missing this month's review of Nemrah Ahmed's Namal and I am pretty much sure that my regular readers must have been missing the same too. Namal's fever is not over yet. In fact, its something like what they say, abhi to party shuru hui hai... :-)

With the conclusion of Namal, everyone around has been waiting anxiously for the hard-copy form of this epic. I believe, even in this tech-savvy age, a good reader is one who enjoys reading from the book with a mug of coffee in hands in these chilling evenings of winters. Worry not guys and fasten your seat belts as Namal book is going to be launched very very soon...

As the Namal book is arriving soon, I have observed many online book stores offering their own promotional offers and its pretty encouraging for readers to have all sort of variety but wait don't you want to have the book from the author's own signature place. If you think Namal is just a book, I disagree totally,. To me, its a brand and I strongly believe it should have been purchased from the author's official online social media pages.

Currently we have two primary places where we can get latest, updated & most authentic information about Nemrah's write-ups and Facebook addresses of both these pages are mentioned below:

Zanjabeel - A Bookstore by Nemrah Ahmed https://www.facebook.com/Zanjabeelbookstore/

Nemrah Ahmed: Official https://www.facebook.com/nemrah.ahmed.official/

I just want to share my thoughts that instead of just roaming around here & there and getting less charming offers, I feel we all should access the author's original online places to get the best from the best. And as they have quoted in their official page, they are going the reveal the souvenir very soon, which would be presented along with the Namal book. Who knows, what they have in their kitties for us.But one thing is for sure, it would not be an ordinary thing and it would surely be something to cherish. So a free advise is here... Be original and Get original. :-)

A very good luck for the launch of book to Nemrah Ahmed and the publishers and Happy Waiting for all the fans who have lived these 30 months of their lives in the wonderland of Namal.

O Positive (Atiya Khalid)- Fiction Review by Shoby

O Positive (Atiya Khalid)- Fiction Review by Shoby

O you mankind! Eat of what is on earth, Lawful (Halaal) and good (Tayyab); and do not follow the footsteps of the devil, for he is to you an avowed enemy.
(Sura e Baqarah- Ayat 168).

So it is categorically written in QURAN PAK and here ALLAH PAK is talking to the whole humanity, not only to the persons belonging to a specific religion. DO NOT eat Haraam in any case, as it will make you follow the footsteps of the eternal enemy i.e. Shetaan.

Atiya Khalid (the emerging writer) has touched one of the most important aspect (or should I say, a dilemma) of human society in this fiction which was published in a monthly digest last year.

This materialistic world of ours is hungry for power, wealth & what not and we human beings leave no page unturned to do whatever it takes for our personal benefits and Aaqib was no different.

His father has brought him up with one loud & clear message. Never ever try to add the negative components especially the ones forbidden by ALLAH PAK in your blood, as O + has been bestowed to you, so that you can donate it to the needy ones and you should not be thankless to HIM for blessing you in such a wonderful way by maligning it with Haraam. Unfortunately, he forgets the lesson. Let me add, it is not only he, who has forgotten the true lesson, in fact we all have.

This less than 3 pages tale is a complete dose of education, where the writer has tried to kept the things very plain. Looks like the only goal of the author was to spread one big strong message without complicating the scenarios. The best thing that I found in the fiction was her very simple story telling.

She has depicted two en-masse distinctive characters and presented the contrast between them so smoothly. I am pretty sure that the author has successfully achieved what her objective was and her message was surely reached to the target audience quite clearly.

I would surely love to read more from this writer, may be a novel or so, as I feel she has that feel in her writing which can teach you without being preachy.

Rangoon (2017)- Music Review by Shoby

Rangoon (2017)- Music Review by Shoby

It is not possible that we can hear a movie from Vishal Bhardwaj and it does not have lyrics penned by legendary poet/ lyricist Gulzar sb. They have given us gems of the songs in past and some of the tunes are truly unforgettable. Apart from many others, I personally love O Saathi Re (Omkara), Tu Mere Rubaru (Maqbool), Bekaran (7 Khoon Muaaf). So now they are back with the new product called Rangoon, a period drama. Lets see, what the album has in it for us.

Bloody Hell (Sunidhi Chauhan)- When you see the name of Sunidhi Chauhan attached to a song, the bars of expectation increase up  so many times and she has crooned this Vishal Bhardwaj's groovy composition in the mood which was just perfect for this type of track. Gulzar sb's lyrics gets your attention right from the very beginning and see how beautifully they go throughout the sound... Us ne do ankhon se mera naam liya angrezi mein... Khulam khula do honton ka jaam piya angrezi mein. This one song is a must have in my car's music collection. Girtey girtey us ne mujh ko thaam liya... A sure short instant hit.

Yeh Ishq Hai (Arijit Singh)- For all the lovers of soothing melodious tunes just like Bekaran, O Saathi Re & many more, this one is surely for you. Arijit Singh was the ideal choice for the track or should I say, this was a tailor made composition for him. This composition takes you into a nostalgia. Sahil pe sir rakh ke darya hai, soya hai... Sadiyon se behta hai, ankhon ne boya hai... Yeh Ishq Hai Re... Near the end, the songs turns into pure Sufi tracks with lyrics Jaagey to Tabrezi, boley to Rumi hai (perhaps referring to the famous saints Shah Shams Tabrez and Jalal-ud-Din Rumi)

Mere Miyan Gaye England (Rekha Bhardwaj)- It is Vishal's take on Mere Piya Gaey... This time, "miyan" has gone to Englaaand and this peppy track sets your mood accordingly. It apparently looks like such a track which will be included in the live stage performance somewhere in the film's heart. I loved the use of Shehnai & trumpet in the song. The song had a huge feel of 7 Khoon Muaaf's track Darling.

Tippa (Sukhwinder Singh, Rekha Bhardwaj, Sunidhi Chauhan, O.S. Arun)- Well I was waiting for some real unorthodox lyrics, something that is trademark of Gulzar and this is probably what I was looking. It is an interesting sweet challenge to catch the lyrics of this very unconventional track.

Ek Dooni Do (Rekha Bhardwaj)- This one is yet another situational track that has been created to take the script's proceeding ahead. This might help the story to move further.

Alvida (Arijit Singh)- Just like Omkara had "Naina" sung by maestro Ustad Rahat fateh Ali Khan, Rangoon features this gloomy slow melody sung by Arijit. Some lyrics that has the penchant to modify your mood right away.

Julia (Sukhwinder Singh, K.K., Kunal Ganjawalla, Vishal Bhardwaj)- Jeem Pesh Laam Wow... Aen Sheen Qaaf... A typical Gulzar's way of projecting a phenomenon important for the situation of the movie. It introduces us with the main character, the much powerful "Julia" in a style.

Chori Chori (Rekha Bhardwaj)- It is a naughty track in which the girl is seriously teasing the boy as she has caught him red-handedly while he might have been having a sneak-peak to his beloved. Looks like this one will work as another stage performance in the film.

Yeh Ishq Hai (Female Version) (Rekha Bhardwaj)- More slower than the original version at the beginning, this one is a sad, gloomy track that takes the pace after few moments. Use of tabla & harmonium gives it a feel of qawali in the middle of the track.

Rangoon Theme- This is an instrumental just more than one & a half minute track, which will go along with the movie.

Be Still (Dominique Cerejo)- Lekha Washington has penned this English lyrical track and it is a nice track that takes you down the memory lane.

Shimmy Shake (Vivienne Pocha)- This one is also penned by Lekha Washington. This song has also the same feel as the other songs of the album, groovy & foot tapping.

Final Words: This album contains huge number of songs, twelve in total and it is not false to say that Vishal & Gulzar sb has become quite successful in providing us the product which not only goes well with the theme of the movie but also works good for the listeners especially for the fans of Gulzar's poetry & Vishal's compositions. Few of the songs are brilliantly penned and splendidly composed. My picks are Bloody Hell, Tippa, Alvida and Yeh Ishq Hai.

OK Jaanu- Movie Review by Shoby

OK Jaanu- Movie Review by Shoby

3.25 Hearts out of 5...

Girl & a boy from diverse backgrounds with different career objectives meet up by chance. It certainly looks familiar... Isn't it??? That's why I say, all these stories are somehow the same, what makes them look interesting is the execution. Veteran film maker Mani Ratnam gave a Tamil blockbuster in 2015 (titled OK Kanmani) and Shaad Ali remakes it in Hindi officially under the co-production of cinema giants Mani Ratnam & Karan Johar, starring the celebrated on-screen couple of Aashiqui 2, Aditya Roy Kapoor & Shraddha Kapoor, along with Naseer ud Din Shah and Leela Samson in pivotal roles. Further strengthening the project was the induction of musical maestro AR Rahman (who was also the composer of the original Tamil version) along with legendary poet/ lyricist Gulzar Sb. Remember, last time when the team joined hands to re-do a Mani Ratnam's film, the result was the critical & commercial success Saathiya. Lets see, have they been successful this time.

Aadi (Aditya Roy Kapoor) meets Tara (Shradhha Kapoor) by luck in a white wedding ceremony and both of them develop a nice warm liking for each other. Hence, they decide to have a sit-in relationship till time separates them apart citing their career objectives. Adi wants to be a successful game developer, whereas Tara wants to study architecture abroad. They both start living together in the house of an old-romantic couple (Naseer ud Deen Shah and Leela Samson). Whats happens next should be watched in the film.

OK I agree, the plot is like centuries old but one thing that has made the film attractive is the execution. It is a typical Shaad Ali's film with patches of Mani Ratnam's style embedded within. The moderate portion of first half of the movie is a bit slower but rest of the film moves quickly ahead and thus narrative never bores you down.

OK Jaanu resembles Saathiya in more than many ways. Couple first time meet in a wedding, train sequences and even that Humma Song positioning & choreography was almost identical to Saathiya.

As anticipated writing has been outstanding all through the timeline and dialogues are written brilliantly. I loved the scenes when Adi & Tara meets in trains, metros & bus. All the scenes featuring Naseer ud Deen & Leela are class. With usage of some brilliant Urdu dialect, they are there to entertain the classy audience.

As expected film stands tall in the department of music, dialogues & acting. Gulzar sb has not only penned some beautiful lyrics for the songs (my favourite Saajan Aayo Re) but he has also written fabulous dialogues for everyone. Interesting part is that he has penned the dialogues for the four characters (Adi, Tara, Gopi & Chaaru) while considering the aspect of their character sketches & generations.

Last ten odd minutes of the movie are a treat to watch. Fast, edge of the seat and although climax is very much predictable, it forces you to watch the whole proceedings till the very end.

Overall, OK Jaanu works exceptionally well in patches and it is no doubt a much better film keeping in view that Bollywood has not been able to give us something exceptional for an year or so.

Travelers (TV Series)... TV Show Review by Shoby

Travelers (TV Series)... TV Show Review by Shoby

The world is on the verge of destruction and a team of five "Travelers" is sent from a future by a Director, which is supposed to be millions of years ahead of us, in order to save it from the possible crisis. Netflix and Showcase joined hands to co-produce the science-fiction TV series titled as "Travelers" starring Emmy Award-winning actor Eric McCormack in the lead role of FBI special agent Grant MacLaren. It also featured MacKenzie Porter, Nesta Cooper, Jared Abrahamson and Reilly Dolman as other members of the Travelers team in the roles of Marcy Warton, Carly Shannon, Trevor Holden & Philip Pearson respectively. Every traveler was assigned a unique ID as well.

The pilot episode of the season was an excellent appetiser, which introduced us with the complete primary team comprising of five travleres in a sterling manner. Marcy, Carly, TrevorPhilip and captain MacLaren are shown just about to die in their own places with "Estimated Time of Death" written on the screen but all of them get new lives and the timeline starts again from the beginning. It was also interesting to witness the change in the behaviour & overall personality traits of all these characters once they got new lives. For instance, Marcy was an intellectually disable person before getting the new life, however we see that once she embraced the new avatar, she was no more disable. Soon, we realise that the lives of these characters was not given back, in fact they were replaced by the travelers, imported from far ahead (assumed) future of ours.

In an episode, all of a sudden, four members of the team disappeared and the team's captain McClaren had to search for them. They were kidnapped by someone who questioned them individually like When are you from??? Now this was really chilling. Later on we came to know that the one who kidnaps them is also from the future but that entity is against the Director and his objectives.

After few introductory episodes, it was clarified that the real danger for the world was "Helios-685" which was going to alter the course of history in the planet Earth that would have went on to destroy the humanity along with the planet and our team of travelers become successful in saving the world.

Later on, they were not taken back to the future, so they were almost forced to live the lives of these persons, which caused some mental frustration within them at one point or another, but soon they get another mission. Meanwhile, MacLaren had to save Bishop at any cost from dying in the plane crash. He is provided with a device which has the power to save only two people in the plane but his decisions gets changed when he discovers that his wife Kathryn is also travelling through the same plane. In the attempt to save both of them, he himself gets injured badly but later on recovers quickly. On the other hands, one of the team member's conditions start getting worse and he/she had to die to go on with the mega mission, the actual purpose of their arrival. Seasons ends on a high note and I recommend one should the complete series to know what happens next especially who the member was, which had to die (reset the timeline of life, while forgetting almost everything about previous stint).

As stated earlier, Travelers is a science fiction show but we have not seen any significant unorthodox modern technologies being introduced. Story was quite simple but it was executed superbly. No points for guessing that Eric McCormack was pitch perfect in the portrayal of team's captain & agent. In fact, all of the actors from the core cast were phenomenal in their performances.

To me, Travelers is something like Fringe. However, initial season of Fringe was way above than this one. First series of Travelers was just above than average, however it has been successful in making nice premises for the script in upcoming seasons. I personally feel that something bigger is yet under covers and will be released in next couple of seasons. Therefore, I shall surely wait for hte next season.

Main Bint e Jameela (Sumaira Hameed)- Story Review by Shoby

Main Bint e Jameela (Sumaira Hameed)- Story Review by Shoby

Lights, Fun, Entertainment, Glitz, Glamour, Happiness, Laughter, Fashion, Power, Wealth, Status and STOP... Most of us belong to the class of people who have seen just these beautiful things in our lives. No, I don't mean to say that we all don't have problems. We all do have problems, in fact at times, we just complaint our CREATOR ALLAH- The ALMIGHTY that were we the only beings on the whole planet left for the sake of all ( ? ) this. And this does not ends here. We even go on to become presumptuous enough that it looks like life has been nothing but a living hell for us. But have you really tasted a living hell... NO... ALHAMDO LILLAH... Once again say, ALHAMDO LILLAH, No we have not and May we all continue to live in our little heavens. This life is a gift and you realise this fact seldom. Actually only once in a blue moon, when you get to hear stories just like this one. And believe it or not, these stories are very much part of our fake fad-oriented fabricated hypocrite society as much as we all are. Sumaira Hameed unveils the darkness in the tale.

I am still wondering what was the purpose of her birth. But much before her arrival in this not so heavens sort of world, why was even her mother born. To call these two persons unlucky is something that the phrase "Unlucky" would have mind for sure. They were miserable. Sorry much more than miserable. Their lives (if there was any) was like a darkest greyish tragedy. They were born to die. No, not like the literal dying. They were born to die daily as if the only thing that was established for them was to suffer. Suffer more and more until they lose themselves and deny calling themselves as even lowest of the beings. They were only big burning wounds that  would have never healed. Not in this world at least.

Before reading this one, to me the most poorest character I have ever read in my life was the destitute poor Pip (in his earlier age) from Charles Dickens "Great Expectations" but I am pretty confident that if little Pip had the opportunity to meet Jameela or her mother (Deena), he would have thanked GOD trillions of time for sending him to a much more better place than where he was.

I am not at all going to tell you what happened in the story, because I just wish all of you to read it at least for once. Not because this is a Sumaira Hameed's gem or not because I liked it with all of its arduous brutality & ugliness. Just because I want all of us (including my very own self) to remind that ALLAH PAK is The MOST KIND and HE has sent us in real paradise. Yes my dears, we all live in our paradise but alas we all continue to search for something else. We cherish the paradise of others without considering what we have * the other does not.

Right from the word "go", this story has written B L A C K all over it. Can you believe that the writer who gave us superb romances like Borshay, Yaaram and even recently released classic Ishq Amad o O Mann can write something in this style with sheer darkness. No doubt, she has once again proved to be the master of story telling by sharing this ultimate piece of shabbiest plague of our society.

The narrative of this story is so strong that you literally feel like crying while reading this right from the very first sentence. See how perfectly she expresses what we all are all about:

Dekha, hum sab zindagi hi nahi, maut ke sath bhi munafiq hotey hain...

Regardless of where we live and what we do, we should not mind that we all consider ourselves as pseudo-gods and thumbs up for Sumaira for saying: In basty walon ko parnida baani ka bhi bohat shoq tha... Qaid ker ke rakhney ke shoqeen they... Aaqa banney ki zabardast khuahish pai jati thi in mein.

Charlie Chaplin said, "to truly laugh, you must be able to take your pain, and play with it!"... And no one can deny the fact that when someone crosses the limits of absorbing pain, he no longer feels the same pain. If we talk about Jameela, she was a clear winner in this department. After enduring tons of grieves, she has found the way of smoking out these pains up above the air and converting them into humour. Humour that is sufficient for you to cry even more.

Na janey kon hinduon ka lota ler ker bhaag gaya tha ya unhain bhagaana bhool gaya tha

Main baqayda Mrs. Khaga ban gai...

Mujhey mubarak ho, main dulhan ban gai...

Zaheen or mukammal bewa...

Marhoom do chaar baar mastaa ker mujh per bhi girey they.

Brillaint... Superb...

To be honest, we all like the stories with great entertainment quotient and it is harder for us to swallow this type of grey shadowed tale of cruelty and disgust at its prime but it is true that these tales do exist and once again I have to say that these tales are very much part of us. We just need to come out of our cosy houses and witness what is happening around us. Our surroundings are full of these stories and believe it or not, we all are one way or another a major culprit for the same.

The behavior of Jameela or Deena can never be called as normal. But I cant say it is abnormal as well, considering the fact the (so-called) life they were given to live (read bear), they were meant to become what they really became.

ALLAH PAK says in QURAN Pak, "There is nothing for man except what he strives for..." (Surah Najm, Ayat 39). And destiny is indeed in our own hands. We are surely the product of our own deeds & decisions. Sumaira has categorically shown us two different attitudes, which went on to procure two altogether different personalities. One was "Deena" who left herself in the hands of injustice & kept herself silent. Ultimately she became a mere rolling stone. On the other hand, "Jameela" had the courage to be vocal. She started off by defeating her fear for grand-mother and continued the struggle, until the very last.

Let me talk a bit about Sumaira Hameed's linguistic approach. She has penned the dialogues for Borshay and made us go in the dreamland of Irish valleys. She has written dialogues for Yashfeen and we have seen ourselves wandering here & there in the ancient Turkey. She has penned superlatives for Aliyaan & Amraha and we have travelled marvellously all through Manchester & Lahore through her words. And here she is building words & phrases in three different dialects. From extreme filthy Punjabi pro-con to the lingo of typical migrants, meanwhile keeping the very simple Urdu all over. What an exceptional beautiful blend. Hats Off.

I can seriously continue to write more & more in praise of this 25 page social dilemma but I know your time is crucial and I want you to spend more of this extremely crucial time in reading Bint e Jameela, much more than I want you to read me.

Ms. Sumaira Hameed's thoughts on my review writing...

Hussn ul Muaab Or (Saira Raza)- Episode 1 Review by Shoby

Hussn ul Muaab Or (Saira Raza)- Episode 1 Review by Shoby

Orson Welles said, We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone. Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone. It is indeed a common universal phenomenon that if someone is on the verge of death, for him it is like a finale (at least) for this one life... More precisely, it is almost equivalent to cessation... And that one person was surely feeling the heat of this... “the tired sunsets and the tired people - it takes a lifetime to die and no time at all.” Charles Bukowski.

Lets meet four lively young happy-go-lucky college friends. Dark-broad eyed Mah'ru, simple & genius eyed Areeba, less talkative & probably most sensible of the group Haleema and the one & only, the Rapunzel, the snow white, the fairy queen, the namesake of beauty, the over-sensitive, the ever displeased Husn ul Muaab aka Husnal).

Now this is interesting. Have you ever met with someone whose parents once belonged to different religions. Meet Marry who is hastily entering the church to attend the traditional white wedding of Youhanna & Tina.

The girl having most conservative family background is shocked on hearing that her mother has only two options i n consideration for her future husband Abdul Mateen & Abdul Mubeen and no points of guessing that this ambitious girl is just about to to die on hearing this. Fortune might have planned something else for her as she happens to meet the emerging singing sensation Musa.

Ms. Saira introduced us with plenty of other characters as well in this inaugural episode. Pertinent to mention two of them are the foreign return rich dashing most eligible bachelor of town (Badar) along with his regretting parents and one of the biggest religious scholars of the country Mufti Ubaid ur Rahman, who seems to be more than disappointed on the ongoing modernism which according to him is pure vulgarity.

What actually tempted me to read this novel was obviously the first time heard name (Husnul Muaab). Beautiful, attractive rather intriguing. And then with the further progress of the story, few incidents really kept me glued to the writing. Especially that one Christian religious twist and the anticipated upcoming battle between radicalism & modernisation.

In the heart of the story, Ms. Saira  has used some beautiful verses of QURAN PAK (Sura Al'Baqarah and Sura Maryam) which has not only enhanced the aura of the writing but also set up a grand premise for something opulent in the upcoming series.

Ms. Saira has also quoted some verses from Bible (Matthew 6 Giving to the Needy Prayer) which depict the glory of GOD and to me this was a a stunner as the author quoted just what suited the scene the most. Brilliant research.

Ms. Saira has used few small sit-com episodes within the narrative which never looked contrived to me. I really want to applaud her for the very first class room scene featuring multiple students with their (almost) natural behaviour.

It is vital to for me to acknowledge the fact that I have not reviewed (or even read) Ms. Saira Riaz earlier than this so her writing style is a bit different for me. It is equally important to mention here that most of the readers of Ms. Saira might have not read my reviews earlier on, So it may take a while for both of us (me & my new readers) to understand each other So I want my readers to give me margin of error in case any thing lacks in my review.  Meanwhile I am anxiously waiting for the next episode to know what happens to the gang of girls in this highly volatile society.

Ishq, Amad o Mann (Sumaira Hameed)- Novel Review by Shoby

Ishq, Amad o Mann (Sumaira Hameed)- Novel Review by Shoby

Let us join a gathering held somewhere in Konya (the ancient city of Central Antolia in Turkey), where every girl of town is present with the hope of getting that one special handkerchief from Baba Salah that can sprinkle the magic on her luck so that a prince rides to her on his white royal horse and picks her up to continue the journey of life happily ever-after.

As the case of this real world, every one is not fortunate enough in the event to get the desired handkerchief. Some gets books, some gets pen and only one Yashfeen happens to be that luckiest one who achieves the superlative of all. But story never ends here. Cinderellas do not realise their worth unless the prince come and tells them what they really are... She hands it over to Laila. In the meantime, Yousaf is just about to enter Konya (undesirably) courtesy his father's strict order of marrying the richest businessman's daughter...

First encounter of Yousaf with Yashfeen was a class act. Typically how a boy-meets-girl with an unintentional sit-com little fight but see how magical words can make the whole thing completely new & interesting for you...

Tum ghorey per sawaar ho ker aik larki se mukhaatib ho... Kiya tum mein itna bhi ikhlaq nahi ke aik aurat ko kabhi bulandi se nahi pukaartey...

And he was just thinking, whom have I seen at dawn of this not-so-beautiful morning... (his own self in the reflection may be... Ha ha ha And if this was not enough, she continues to say,

Aik musaafir aik aurat se rasta poochna munasib samajhta hai... Woh yeh tak nahi janta ke auraten rastey nahi bataya kerti... Yeh kaam mardon ke hotey hain warna inhain khud bhatka hua mana jata hai... (Stunner... What a scene Sumaira... Bravo)... Well, it was already written somewhere in the books... Cupid the stupid has thrown the arrow...

Mujeeb Durani was a typical mean & greedy businessman and the proposed wedding of Yousaf & Laila was nothing but a mere business transaction. Same was quite visible from the meetings of Yousf with Mujeeb & his son and Yousaf was so disheartened that he wanted to wipe out any chance to materialise the wedding, so he asks for a meeting with Laila before he can decide and Laila meets him along with Yashfeen, which creates sort of a misunderstanding. He thinks Yashfeen is Mujeeb's daughter, so he presents himself ready for the marriage... Who knew destiny had some other things planned for this trio.

Mujeeb gets to know about Yousaf's liking for Yashfeen and then he plays a wicked game that alters the future in one way or another for everyone of them. Rest should be read in the novel.

The story this time primarily revolves around three different persons living with three different perspectives under three altogether different conditions, having only one thing in common, extreme emotions of love & hate. Yousaf, Yashfeen and Laila, these three characters have been written while considering sensibilities & sensitivities of human beings. I believe, by far, this novel is one of the strongest writings by Sumaira, if we talk about character sketches.

It has been a forte of Sumaira Hameed that most of her stories are established in regions not popularly known in our community. Hence she is the one who is our regular guide when it comes to knowing something unique in terms of demography. Here we got to visit Konya. Sumiara is so acute in detailing of the characters, the places and the customs & traditions associated with them that all the words she write become images and you can see the ancient Konya with all of its demographic traits. At times, you feel astonished of her out of the box research. Thumbs up for her excellent research on the subject matter.

Just like Ibn ul Qalam, Wali & RAB ul Bashar, this time too there were tons of lessons to be learnt in the story.

Agar sari dunya ke chiragh bujh jaey to kiya kerna ho ga mohtaram khatoon???
Din ka intezar.
Agar raat bohat lambi ho haey to?
Aag ka intezam.
Aag kahin bhi muyasar na ho to kiya roshan kerna ho ga???
Sabar ka chiragh...

See how beautifully she gives an excellent lesson without being preachy... Neend ghaflat ki nishaani hai... Or yeh ghaflat tumhain aziz bhi hai... Yeh kitab parha karo...

Sumaira is undoubtedly one of those very few writers who can make you fell in love with certain outstanding scenes. See how serene she pictures the ongoing of those devastated love stricken couple Woh raat us ne saraey se mulhiq us kamrey, mein guzari jahan Yousaf so raha tha... Simply marvellous.

I am not fabricating but this again it was hard (almost impossible) to choose the best dialogue this time. Ishq, Amad o Mann was a galaxy of bright dialogues, that went smoothly beautiful with the premise of the story. Impeccable

Waqt beet ker maazi ho jata hai... Dard theher ker wesa hi taza rehta hai...

I have already said it in one of my earlier reviews and I am saying it again. Sumaira Hameed's writings are not at all an easy read. She has the unique tendency of making an exclusive Shangri-La by the mere usage of words and she effortlessly pushes you to travel along with her characters within the established fictional locations and you cant help but to dive and dive deep into the oceans of the words.

Ishq, Amad o mann is the story of love, hate & obviously Karma. It depicts that at the the end of the day, there is only one ALLAH who completes the justice and no matter how deeper & longer the darkness prevails, light does sprinkle.

Main, Mohabbat Or Tu (Aymal Raza)- Novel Review by Shoby

Main, Mohabbat Or Tu (Aymal Raza)- Novel Review by Shoby

Daniel had only one option to listen all the tragedies of this not-so-downtrodden dashing-rich Jibran in this one of its kind Theme park. From losing a bet of merely 500 Dollar (not a big deal obviously :p ) to getting blackmailed on the hands of his very own mother to marry the girl (Maria) that he used to love in his teens only. You just count on your finger and it was not possible that this very problem has not occurred with this young-smart chap. And if anything was left to make his life worst, guess what he got impinged with (not so real) Cinderella (for whom he was just praying to meet anytime sooner in this real living world) in the theme park... (Poorest he)...

Larkiyon ke libaas aisey hi hotey hain... Un ki hi tarah hassas... (Ahhhh this one strike the chord correctly Aymal)...

Rumi was basically an antecedent struck poor girl who was doning the avatar of Cinderella in the theme park in order to give her (single-parent) mother a helping hand and the first attire that she was asked to do was of a bear... Or chhohiya ne bhaalu ban'na pasand ker liya  (#Feeling super sad for her) :-(

Bhalu ke libaas ka ooperi hissa muskurata hua sa tha... Dekhney wala yeh gumaan bhi nahi ker sakta tha ke is muskuratey chehrey ke ander wala kis qarb se guzer raha hai... And the truth is "When the king gets depressed, he doesn't call for his wife. He doesn't call for the cook. He calls for the court jester." Richard Simmons

Anyways, as a token of punishment, Rumi asked for the indemnity of 150 dollars from Jibran on account of making her Cinderella costume messy and the amount was just about perfect for Rumi to spend some bucks for the shopping. After all, she & her mummy would have deserved at least this much taste of joy courtesy (looted) money. :p

The magician's scene was real funny especially when he hits her with the stick. All the dialogues between Jibran and his mother are written sweetly with nice dose of humour embedded within.

They say, Karma is what does the justice, so 150 dollar indemnity was equally (read more brutally) replied by a 300 dollar compensation as bad-luck struck Rumi unlickly breaks Jibran's expecnsive cell phone in the university. And Aymal Raza was at her satirical best when she penned the dialogue:

Rumi: Agar koi aera ghera ghar aa ker aap ki beti ke khilaf kuch ulta seedha boley to kiya aap yaqeen ker len gi???
Faryal: Main sir phor du gi...
Rumi: Well done Ammi...
Faryal: Us ka nahi... Tumhara

Jibran arranges his cartoon- themed birthday party and Rumi along with her complete crew had to go there but right before the cake cutting ceremony, she falls and her heads gets removed and her identity is revealed in front of all. Enraged & infuriated Rumi slaps Jibran and breaks the things at the place. From nowhere, Aymal Raza has managed to pull over yet again the same heartbreaking melancholic aura in Main Mohabbat Or Tu, which has always been a fortay of her writing. See, how bereaved Rumi's character looks in these scenes.

Rumi pays back his 300 dollars in university and thre onward starts a story of love-hate relationship between the two. Needless to mention that Maria (Jibran's to be fiance') enters and exits the story without making certain noise and so does Rumi's (assumed dead) father. Rest should be read in the story itself.

Aymal has told this very sensitive story write from the heart. This time her writing was a bit different as she tried her hand on a more light-hearted note with chunks of suitable situational comedy but I still feel the overall ambience of the story was gloomy. It was a forlorn tale sugar-coated beautifully with burlesque. I loved the beginning portion of the novel very much, where Rumi was shown getting ready to re-do Cinderella. It somehow reminded me of William Wordsworth's famous poem Daffodils.

Aymal is one of the best in today's Urdu literature world, when  it comes to one-liners and she proved her mettle in this department once again. Watch how Jibran's mom sums it all regarding her own theory about fairy tale's leading characters:

Jo humari ankhon ko bhali lagti hain... Wohi humarey liye Rapunzel, Cindrella, Caty, Barbie, Frozen ya Snowwhite hoti hain...

While reading the novel, I could not repel the thoughts of Raj Kapoor's epic film Mera Naam Joker... No there is no similarity between the two except the one thing that protagonist of both (film & the novel) had to do certain jester sort of makeover in order to earn their livelihood. Apart from this, Aymal managed to bring the same grief-stricken atmosphere through her words which was present all over in the movie.

To tell you honestly, culminating part of the story was a typical living happy ever after sort of ending which was just OK considering the fact that story started off with humour and these sit-coms require a nice made-for-each-other type of all-goes-well ending.

I don't know, but I feel something was visibly lacking somewhere in the ending. May be, a couple of more scenes where Jibran would have put some more effort to persuade Rumi would have done wonders but again I can understand that writer must have taken the lenght of the story in her notice.

However, one thing that really was all over my mind while reading the ending part of Mai, Mohabbat or Tu was my this one couplet:

Aao ankhon ko mal ke dekhey hum
Tu ne khuahish saraab ker di hai (Shahbaz Ali Naqvi)

Khayal Yaar- (Story1 Review by Shoby)

Khayal Yaar- (Story 1 Review by Shoby)

First of all, let me clarify, I do not intend to reproduce the story of Khayal Yaar here. Rather I am focusing only on what the first story in this Sumaira Hameed's collectoin was all about.

Buddha said, "We are shaped by our thoughts; we become, what we think. When the mind is pure joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. She was (presumed to be) sleeping just like what John Green talks about, "I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once..." Her sleep was disjointed by none other than her very own self (her consciousness, her thoughts) and her consciousness woke her up right on the time, barring her to take the wrong move, when she was just about to decide the most invalid.

Sadham was going through an intense inner battle... A battle that can only be won by killing your own materialistic desires. Her consciousness was trying to make her aware of what she was going to do. She was all set to commit the most hideous crime for which ALLAH PAK says in QURAN PAK:

On account of this. We wrote for the children of Israel that whosoever killed a soul not to retaliate for a soul, nor for creating disorder in the land, then it is as if he had killed all mankinds. And whoso gave life to one soul, then it is as if he had given life to all mankinds. And undoubtedly, Our Messengers came to them with clearproofs then undoubtedly, many of them after that commit excess in the land. (Surah Al-Maidah Ayat 32).

They say, history repeats itself. I just want to add one more thing here. History does repeat itself but it always repeats to give you yet another chance to re-do. It put you yet again in almost the same sort of scenario which has already tested either you or someone like you, before but it depends upon you how to grab the advantage of that one specially bestowed opportunity.

Khayal Yaar is the story of Karma. It is a story of repentance which guide you to such circumstances that can either lead to self destruction or soothes you with an annunciation of a re-birth of your own self.

Sadham loved Haadi and she loved him the way R. M. Drake told, "if I lived a million lives, I would've felt a million feelings, and I still would've fallen a million times for you...: She loved him and loved him to such an extent that he became a like a pseudo-God for her and this was her fatal fault.

Aik Teri Chahat hai... Aik MERI Chahat hai. You may agree with me or not but nothing is a bigger truth than the phenomenon that whatever ALLAH likes and decides for us is the best, however at times we are unaware of the facts that are attached to what HE has decided. No doubt, HE is Al-Hakeem (The Wise).

It is said that every story has an end but in life, every end has a new beginning and Sadham began from where Zoya discontinued. Sadham was going to murder someone and she was so satisfied as according to her there was only one remedy of the plague of her life and that is to kill that one particular person, the presence of whom has shattered her completely. (I highly recommend you to read the story from the book to know, what happens then on wards...)

I am a big fan of the narrative of Ms. Sumaira Hameed. She narrates the tale in such an exceptional technique that you cant help yourself but falling for the words. Not only she played with the minimal of the characters here but also used them where they were required to look most appropriate.

Khayal Yaar runs the story parallel with the dialogue of someone with the own self. It is immensely beautiful to see how smoothly the story goes along with one backdrop self-conversation. To me, the best part of the whole conversation was when the consciousness let the person see how ugly it has turned out to be courtesy the deeds of that very person.

Full marks to Sumaira on beautiful one-liners which has certainly enhanced the overall grandeur of the story. Believe me, many of the dialogues literally made me say the Mighty word ALLAHO AKBAR many of the times and it is really impossible for me right now to choose which one was the best dialogue of the lot.

I believe the tales are always the same. What makes them interesting to read is the treatment and Sumaira Hameed stands tall as a winner in the first story of Khayal Yaar because she has told this love-hate-self realisation saga in a magical way. To me, the richness of Khayal Yaar is hiding in the sentence:

Tumhari talab ajeeb ter, tumhari chahat jawab talab...

Sheher'Zaad Episode 1 (Saima Akram Choudary)- Episode Review by Shoby

Sheher'Zaad Episode 1 (Saima Akram Choudary)- Episode Review by Shoby

Shehr'Zaad- the one who belongs to the life of the glittering city. After Siyah Hashia, Saima Akram Choudary is back with her next episodic Urdu Novel and this time she acquaints us with someone who was probably like Amjad Islam Amjad's Ek Larki.

Wo jab bhi college ki seerrhion sey
SahelioN ko liey utarti
To aesa lagta ke jese dil meiN utar rahi ho...

Somewhere else, amidst of a sad gloomy winter night, someone has just embraced the death with open arms right after leaving her child at one of the railway stations that came while the couple was travelling. Seems like they have gone through something worse than tragic and that catastrophe has torn their life into various pieces.

Location: (my favourite hill station) Murree... This Result jitters has spread all over here and just to avoid any "unavoidable" circumstances, Tuba attempts to tie up the thread knot with the haunted banyan tree and like always it was the idea of none other than Dur e Shahwar but this time idea couldn't materialised the way they expected and resultantly, they were caught red-handed by Shah Meer

Location (F-7, Islamabad): Rumesa, the daughter of famous beauty salon's chain Tinas owner Ms. Tina has all the reasons to get enraged & cry over the ongoing situation where her mother is supposedly getting herself ready for her fourth wedding. I am sensing we are going to see a neglected-child & problems related to her in upcoming times. On her threat of committing suicide, her sister Sherry (Shehr'zaad) decides to come back Pakistan from France.

So Sheher'zaad returns to Pakistan and so does the call of that self-claimed die-hard love(r) Keep guessing who is he :p

PAUSE for a moment... Today (January 6, 2016 Friday) a winter evening... Me reading "Sheher'zaad" and Dur-e-Shehvar is all set to have a meaty view of Murree's Mall Road with its very own style of (as usual) crowd with plates full of nuggets, fries & pakoras (real moth watering... Isn't it)...???

There have been only a handful of encounters between Dur-e-Shehwar and Mohammad Hadi but believe me, all of them have been gone totally invalid. Especially the last one which has resulted in the window-smashing combat between the two. There are no points for guessing that the two will soon enter in a cupid-controlled earth shattering sort of romance and this story will surely have a great significance  in the heart of the novel.

After finding herself completely helpless of what her infuriated younger kid (Rumi) was up to, Tina goes to a dargah but on her return she witnesses what turns out to be one hell of an affair. One-Two_three, the neglected child has (probably) started showing her ugly side.

Like ever other initial episode of a series, first episode of Sheher'zaad was a grand introduction with all the focus of the author was on setting up the premise around which the whole novel will roam around. Till yet, I have found some of the characters really appealing and powerful and they are looking confident enough to take the story ahead in the right direction.

First couple of scenes of the episode were trademark Saima Akram's sort of writing. While visibly hiding tons of secrets and untold stories, they were catchy enough to go well as far as the start of the novel is concerned.

Honestly speaking, I have not yet come across those energetic one-liners for which Ms. Saima is famous among her readers. However, overall ambience of the episode one was quite lively especially the Murree tale.

Episode 2 of the novel will certainly throw more light on the happenings.

Namal Concludes- Novel Analysis by Shoby

Namal Concludes- Novel Analysis by Shoby

We live in a world full of diverse stories. Stories that bear the secrets. Secrets that demand to be revealed and thus the stories need to be told. At times I feel, none of the stories are that interesting unless they are made look alluring and this job can only be done who picture the words for us. At one hand they tell simplest of a tale that goes on to become a classic just like Nicholas Sparks A Walk To Remember or John Green's The Fault in Our Stars. On the contrary, sometime the story teller chooses an exceptional premise, a very strong tale but ruins the beauty of it by just using repugnant elements.

We have number of authors in our country who have fascinated us with their strong substantial writing prowess and one of these names need no further introduction. The writer of immensely famous Mus'haf, Jannat Ke Pattay, Beli Rajpootan Ki Malika, Karakaram ke Taj Mehal and what not. Let me go straight to the main course of the day, which may ranks probably as the most famous Urdu language episodic novel of our times titled as "Namal".

I believe that Namal borrows the name from one of the Surah of QURAN PAK (Sura e Namal). Namal means ants, which are considered to be one of the most unique creature of ALLAH PAK- The Almighty. The novel "Namal" revolves around the people who are considered as the weakest elements of the society, just like the ants who are apparently the weakest of the creatures. Recall what ALLAH PAK says in Sura e Namal,

"Until when they came to the valley of the ants, and said, 'O ants, enter your houses; lest Sulaiman and his armies may crush you unknowingly." (Ayat 18).

At this point, let me PAUSE you for a moment and give you an amazing perspective regarding Ants and that too from the Door of the City of Knowledge. IMAM ALI (asws) in one of his sermons says about ants:

Look at the ant with its small body and delicate form. It can hardly be seen in the corner of the eye, nor by the perception of the imagination – how it moves on the earth and leaps at its livelihood.  It carries the grain to its hole and deposits it in its place of stay.  It collects during the summer for its winter and during strength for the period of its weakness.  Its livelihood is guaranteed, and it is fed according to fitness.  ALLAH, the Kind, does not forget it and (ALLAH the Giver) does not deprive it, even though it may be in dry stone or fixed rocks.

If you have thought about its digestive tracts in it’s high and low parts, the carapace of its belly, and its eyes and its ears in its head you would be amazed at its creation and you would feel difficulty in describing it. Exalted is HE who made it stand on its legs and erected it on its pillars (of limbs). No other originator took part with HIM in its origination and no one having power assisted HIM in its creation. If you tread on the paths of your imagination and reach its extremity it will not lead you anywhere except that the Originator of the ant is the same as HeEwho is the Originator of the date-palm, because everything has (the same) delicacy and detail, and every living being has little difference.” (Sermon 185 from the book Nahjul Balagha).

Let us now move towards Namal- The novel. How should I describe it. Should I say that it was a a tale of self realisation. How weak ants of the society realised their inner strength and moved multiple steps forward to fight the bad ones. Was it a story of yet another Pseudo-God clan that was demolished as they wanted to rule the small world of their existence in their own style. Sort of people for whom the Sura e NAMAL says,

"I found her people prostrating before the sun leaving ALLAH and the devil (Satan) adorning their deeds in their eyes has barred them from the straight path so that they do not get the way." (Ayat 24).

OK, my one-liner, Namal was all about Kardaars vs Yousafs. This good versus bad fight lead to twists & turns that made everyone literally enchanted for all these 30 months (Read 31, as one episode of Namal was not released in digest in a month during the time period :-) ).

Let me remind you the hallmarks of a good storytelling. Besides others, there are five major ingredients that are essential to make the story look worth reading/ viewing, be it a novel, fiction or a script of a film/ drama. Premise, backdrop, characterisation, dialogues and narrative. I guess, no one can deny the significance of all these components for the success of a story. To tell you honestly, Namal was all about a great premise along with a strong backdrop, where every character was introduced & operated by the author whenever/ wherever it was required and on top of all this, a make-believe narrative that was beautifully entangled with mighty enticing  dialogues.

Lets glance at the characters that made the world of Namal, a Disneyland of its own sort for the readers. You may agree or not but we have not seen any villain in the history of Urdu digest series as ruthless, as barbarous and at the same time as authoritative and as debonair, as Hashim Kardaar (which I continued to call as The desi version of Hannibal Lecters). You hate him for his deeds but many of us love the way Nemrah projected this cold-blooded barbaric style icon. There was one thing that he always cherished... Hashim sab theek ker sakta tha...

Main ne samjha tha samander tum ko
Tha ka matlab tumhain ata ho ga (Fakhira Batool)

Then comes Mr. Faris Ghazi (The man of crisis), who can break all the barriers, to beat the hell out of whatever comes in his way, in order to save his family. This one man army has done every vital thing in every possible unethical manner, but again, just like one of the wrestler in WWE used to say, It wasn't my fault. It was never his fault what-so-ever.

First chapter of Namal (series) was titled as "Humara Saadi" and we saw an innocent, happy go lucky, humble, knowledge loving, the one who was truly in love with the divine book QURAN PAK Saadi Yousaf.

Waqt karta hai parwarish barson
Haadsa aik dum nahi hota

And same happened with Saadi. Fate made him get changed and Nemrah showed us two entirely opposite sides of Saadi (from being extremely kindhearted to being severely dangerous). His coming-of-age was brilliantly told by Nemrah Ahmed in the whole series.

She was a very powerful female character. Not only as a successful Lawyer (District Attorney) but also back at the home. She was hurt and she was revenge, written all over her mind. She was Zumer and she was the one many of us prayed to live really long. This character required tons of bravery, cleverness & smartness and not even a single trait was missing in the writing.

Oh that sweethearted K-culture addict, (evil) genius minded young kid who fall in love with not an eligible person. She was Hunain (Hanna) who discovered that it is not really bad to love someone odd, but worse scenario arises when you loose control over yourself. So along with the help of (book) saint's teachings, she re-discovered herself right before getting caught in the web.

Yet another authoritative character was the self-proclaimed queen of heavy is the head that wears his crown, who actually was a self-obsessed witch (read Penny Dreadful's Evelyn). She knew only one thing. Do everything what it takes in order to sustain the power, youth and wealth in your hands. She was the one who wanted to rule and rule forever. She was Jawahiraat.

Ahmer Shafi (The Con-Man) who's character started as a stapney and ended as heir of Sultan Bangash saga. He was a sheer genius and had all the guts to do whatever the master commands. I would love to call him a freelance task initiator. He has done certain real unanticipated things during the course of actions just to get the work done. No doubt, he was the reason of many smiles that came to our faces while reading this immensely serious thriller.

Aabdar Haroon (Aabi)- The victim of NDE (Near Death Experience). Actually she was not a bigger victim of an NDE than she was of the most cherished relationship of the planet (i.e. Love). Cupid made her do things that were never meant to be done by her. Let me summarise her situation, She loved Zumer's Faris and as a matter of the fact, she was loved by Hashim. Handle the equation your own self now... Ha ha ha

Last but not the least, we witnessed a disgruntled, Stubborn, objective-less, wealthy dug-addict spoiled brat (Nosherwaan Kardaar) Sheru. The younger Kardaar who shared the same ugly traits that other Kardaars possessed.

Apart from these, there were many other characters that were pertinent in the heart of the story and considering the fact that Namal lasts for 30 episodes we can give Nemrah the leverage of playing with this mega profusion of characters.

Apart from the ongoing story, many other phenomenon were running parallel along side. Nemrah never forgets to use beautiful & knowledge enriched Ayat of QURAN PAK to share with us lessons that are mandatory to be learned in order to make both of our lives (here & hereafter) worth living. She has once again used many interesting true anecdotes from QURAN PAK in the novel and these stories not only helped the reader to get the real essence of the lessons but also assisted to move the story of the novel ahead.

Talking about Namal, one most pertinent thing to mention is the narrative part of the story. It was a custom at Namal that every chapter had a unique name which hooked beautifully well with the proceedings of the entire episode. Furthermore, every time we got to read a different, unique & interesting read from diverse genres at the start of the episodes. If I have to choose my most favourite of the beginnings, I would surely go for the paragraph taken from Dante's "Divinne Comedy" (Inferno).

Nemrah made sure that every sequence of the Novel should have something "Novel" in it. Just like what I have said many time in my reviews earlier, some of the scenes that Namal featured, made us feel like we are watching an excellent Thriller. Few of the sequences were pure adrenaline pumping rush creating blasters.

Nemrah is a master when it comes to the scene detailing and she did it with utmost brilliance in Namal too. All the scenes featuring court rooms and jail were having ultimate eye-believing authenticity. In Jannat Ke Pattay, she made us visit Turkey and in Namal we visited lush green island Srilanka (Kandy) through her words. She introduced a top class desi brand, my favourite food spot #FoodlyEverAfter where we have been Zumerized many of the times :p

I believe it is impossible to write a 30 episode series and make your readers stick glued to it. Nemrah deserves a standing ovation that she was successful in her attempt and never bored us during the course of time, just apart from may be one or two episodes. Overall, Namal was a fast-paced, edge of the seat marvellously executed mystery- thriller.

Honestly Finale of the novel is very much predictable and rightly so. My regular readers will second me that I predicted almost same sort of denouement. If Nemrah would have ended the Saadi Yousaf abduction/ attempt to murder case in another style where all the culprits were hanged till death, it would not have been looked natural & obviously that was not appropriate considering the fact that we are not living in a justice-pro society.

It is also interesting to see that Nemrah has left the page of Namal still open and this story do possess the trait of having a sequel but I know Nemrah is a very intelligent writer and she will not bid for any second instalment, unless something much bigger & better than this part clicks to her mind.

There are curtains on Namal now and but NOT on reading it :-) So I would highly recommend every reader to must have this mind-boggling seven course meal at least one more read. Believe me guys, charm of this type of stories never faded away and they keep on telling you, they write us for you... So keep on reading us

I just want to say one last (but not the least) thing about Namal, I was hungry for some real good food and Namal acted as a supremely delightful seven course meal that I enjoyed thoroghly all these months. I am going to miss Namal for sure... You tell me, will you miss my reviews at #Shobywood ???
