PK... Movie Review by Shoby

Pk... Movie Review...

2 stars out of 5

Rajkumar Hirani is a v intelligent filmmaker. He knows the best tricks to vow the audience hearts. Munnabhai series is one such example. Unfortunately pk doesnt work as it was supposed to do. Reason might be Umesh Shukla's OMG. Its a v sensitive topic with a v loud and clear message. Pk looks highly inspired from OMG, as far as the script and handling of the subject matter is concerned.

Amir khan and boman are seasoned actors. Cameo of sushant singh is almost perfect. Anushka will surely take u by surprise. She is grooming in every next movie.

Music and BG score is not at all worth mentioning with almost nothing much to discuss. Most of the songs are situational, which help the movie to move further.

Overall pk is a feel good movie, however it lacks the raju's usual punch. Watch it for some real great sequences courtesy raju and anushka.

Happy New Year... Movie Review

Happy New Year... Movie Review

1.5 out of 5 stars...

It is more of a spoof, rather than a movie. Worst movie from Farah Khan. With a script and screenplay, we are tired of watching, this is a sheer waste of cinema. Well, u cant make a good movie by simply gathering big names in your cast. Only good thing to admire is the great lyrical hiphop, aerial and aerobics performed by Deepika. Dont watch, if time is precious for you.

Haider- Movie Review

Haider- Movie Review

3 Stars out of 5

Visahal Bharadwaj, man who is known for his unique film making. He has given us critically acclaimed movies in recent era. Likes of Maqbool, Omkara, Kaminey, 7 Khoon Muaaf and many others were not only praised by who’s who of industry but also well appreciated by the aam janta, making handsome amount on box office. Another thing, which makes Bharadwaj different from others is his great and unmatchable combo with veteran Gulzaar sb. Dialogues, poetry and lyrics used in his films are extremely beautiful. Earlier adapting Macbeth and Othello in grand cinematic ventures, this time he has come up with yet another Shakespearian classic “Hamlet”.

The Tragedy of Hamlet, to me, is undoubtedly one of the best and most praised work of Shakespeare. No doubt, it is baap of tragedies. Scenes in the drama are beautifully written with never read before intensity and sensitivity. All the characters look so classy, yet real that you can get over of it. And when you get to know duo of Bharadvaj and Gulzaar sb is coming up with yet another Shakespearean story to tell, expectations are bound to go well above the sky.

Just, if you have not read Hamlet, it’s about a son’s revenge. Prince Hamlet is asked by the spirit of the assassinated King to take revenge from his mother Gertrude and his uncle Claudius. Bharadvaj has been successful in creating a very relatable script in the backdrop of Kashmir. It is a very intelligent screenplay, pictured with utmost authenticity. Characterization has been the backbone of all of his movies and this time, has once again succeeded in engaging sheer talent for the roles, that can only be enacted by these artists. Tabu in the role of Gertrude, KK Menon in the role of Claudius and Shahid Kapoor as Hamlet is almost a treat. They have done their parts with great class and style. Honestly speaking Shrada could not do the justice with the role of Ophelia. However, gem of the story is Irfan Khan, as the spirit of deceased King. Very authentic, very real, very classy and very artistic.

Some scenes of Hamlet are out of this world, especially when Hamlet visits his mother and King for the first time after the death of his father in the drama and the graveyard scene after the death of Ophelia takes your breath away, while reading. Unfortunately, Bharadvaj was not at all successful in maintaining the feel. Both of the scenes look so ordinary. Graveyard scene could have been made much more authentic. That was a huge disappointment for me.

Bharadvaj has always composed exceptional sound track for his movies. Songs like Tu Mere Rubaroo (Maqbool), O Saathi Re & Naina (Omkara) and Bekaraan (7 Khoon Muaaf) are master pieces. But this time, his sound track has not done wonders. Rather it’s a very average track, with almost nothing to cheer about.

Overall, this film is technically very correct but what it lacks is the real feel of the tragedy. Bharadvaj completes the trilogy (Macbeth, Othello and now Hamlet) but not in his very own unorthodox film making style. May be, I was expecting much more from the dream cast. Omkara is still the best of his works. Best of luck to Bharadvaj for his next ventures.

Operation 021- Movie Review

Operation 021- Movie Review

1.5 Star out of 5

I literally never wanted to review something like Operation 021 but I am compelled to do so. Jami is one of the best video directors of Pakistan, who has credit of many hit videos during the course of time, when our music industry was in full boom. And when he came up with incredible cast including critically acclaimed and commercially super successful actors like Shaan, Ayub Khosa and Amina Sheikh, diversion of attention was bound to happen. Last Eid, we have seen Bilal Lashari’s master piece Waar. Shaan and Shamoon Abbasi at their career best. Trailer of Operation 021 was undoubtedly one of the best that has ever struck to the Pakistani screens. Expectations were undoubtedly sky high. Now lets see, what Operation 021 was all about.

This film has the back drop of current situation of Afghanistan war and its impact on the world. With no intention of disclosing the story, I just want to convey the message that the whole 2 hours 15 min product revolves around a memory chip, which eventually turns out to be almost nothing. I bet you can never find anything like script in the whole film. Looks like Jami was not sure, how to move the step further. A couple of scenes were aala, just because of Shaan. Obviously, he has always been successful in showing his screen presence. Shamoon and Amina Sheikh were wasted big times. Ayub Khosa has been brilliant in his role. Very authentic. And that’s it.

It’s a mixture of multiple languages, English, Persian and Urdu. There is no story to tell and Jami is obviously not Imtiaz Ali, who can convert simple small stories in an amazingly different cinematic experience. Well you cannot make movies only by depicting bird’s eye view and stylish angled shots. Almost all the chase and action sequences are pathetically shot. You can easily track some real blunders in the screen play. Cinematography and DOP was also not up to the mark. Some scenes were so dark (and dark for the sake of nothing) that it was almost impossible to know, who is there on the screen.

On the whole, Jami has not at all been successful in presenting something worth watching. Simple advice, If you ever want to make a movie, make sure that you at least have some script to go with. Sympathies to those, who have wasted their hard earned money for this operation.

First of all, let me confess, I m the world's worst viewer of angrezi films, hence, cant review them as I do for bwood... Now the movie... One of the best art directions... Beautiful themetical bg score, that moves the story further... Baba, who frees django is a winner... Exceptional dialogues written for him and equally gud delivery... Major flaw of movie is the length... Dragged the sequences for no gud... Editing could have been much better... Unfortunately, cant enjoy the proceedings... My fault...

Highway- Movie Review by Shoby

Highway- Movie Review by Shoby

4.25 Stars Out of 5

Cinema is not always about telling grand stories. At times, you hit the right chords by telling fairly simple stories in a grand style. Imtiaz Ali is known for three things primarily... Simple stories, Exceptional locales and excellent music... This time around, he has again collaborated with maestro AR Rehman (after highly appreciated Rockstar) and has a very unique team by casting Randeep Hooda and just one film old Aliya Bhaat to give you another master piece... Highway...

First thing first- Dont look for a very traditional bollywoodish story here. Highway is perhaps the simplest tale ever told in bollywood but with a style, you can expect only from the man himself Imtiaz Ali. Soon to be married a very talkative Aliya Bhaat gets abducted by rough and tough not so talkative (read almost mute) Randeep Hooda and here they start a journey that changes their lives forever... Yes, I am not revealing the whole product... Coming straight to the review part now...

As we have already seen, in Jab We Met, Socha Na Tha and Rockstar, Imtiaz knows how to picturize best of the locales in best of the methods. In highway, you will get to see some real breath taking shots, especially those desert and ice covered mountains. However, this time, its not about picturizing the beauty of nature only...

Highway will be remembered for ages for just one thing... Spectacular performance by Aliya Bhaat and Randeep Hooda... In fact, Aliya has given one of the best performances ever by any Indian actor or actress in recent times.

If Ranbir's passionate performance bowled you over in Rockstar, its time for Aliya's natural acting flow to grab all the attention and praises... Watch the sequences, where she dances her heart out on the beats of Wanna Mashup... Where she confronts for the very first time with Randeep... Where she tells a bit of her past to Randeep... When she retruns to Randeep, Especially in the climax part, just when Randeep is shot and the sequence with her family... Mark my words, she is going to be one of the finest (not only star) but also an artists of our era...

Lets not forget Randeep... The real rough and tough guy has given another steller performance... He is a treat to the eyes... Imtiaz Ali has done a superb work by not complicating the story by adding many characters... The whole premise is built by only the two main protagonists...

Although AR Rehman sb has disappointed me a bit this time, as the sound track is not of that standard like Rockstar but tracks like Patakha Guddi and Sooha Saha are brilliant... Overall, as expected it was more of a themetical and situational based sound track... However, bg score is exceptional... Bravo!

This film will rule the world of heart of those who can feel the sensitivity ans sensibilities of cinema... Imtiaz Ali deserves a standing ovation... My verdict, one of the finest films of our time... Watch it only, if you love art in its purest form...

Highway- Music

Except patakha guddi, nothing is much special in whole soundtrack of Imtiaz's Highway... A bit, infact, a lot of disappointment... Much more was expected frm AR Rehman- Imtiaz Ali duo, especially after a grand sound track of rockstar...

Yaariyan... Movie Review by Shoby...

1.5 out of 5 stars...

Divya khosla kumar, the debutant director draws all the inspirations from Farah khan's main hoon na... This one lacks a strong script, which is perhaps its biggest flaw... Story and screenplay goes nowhere at all... Only ray of hope to me was two beautifuly shot songs... 1.5 stars only for the awsome snowfalls, lots n lots of rains and off course excellent picturization of
Love me thora sa and baarish...

Highway- Trailer Review

 4 out of 5 stars

This two minute thing is an experience of a lifetime... Yes, it does have written Imtiaz Ali and that too in BOLD and ITALIC font all over it... From the sky hitting shots to ice filled mountains... Bundled in (not so-typicall hindi film-ish) and purely Imtiaz Ali type of dialogues... One super confident, an over the top extrovert heroine (like in Jab We Met, Rockstar and love aaj kal)... A not so talkative hero (again like jab we met, socha na tha and rockstar)... A perfect recipe for a sheer cinematic extravaganza... This one will surely touch your heart... Needless to say, it touched mine... Yes, this is my type of cinema... Sky roaring expectations... Cant wait for this AR Rehman- Imtiaz Ali combo...
