Raqsam (Aymal Raza)- Episode 1 Review by Shoby

Raqsam (Aymal Raza)- Episode 1 Review by Shoby

J.K. Rowling said, "“Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it.” (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire).

Do you have any idea, what would have been the psychological stimulus behind someone who does not want to even give a space of his or her parental father's name as a surname post his/ her own name. Minaal bint e Suraya Kausar... The very first phrase of Aymal Raza's latest novel titled Raqsam sets the tune for the readers. The titled managed extremely well to garner my attention. I liked it.

She was a brought up by her mother and only she knows what it is like to be when someone asks questions like where is your father and when he is coming back to you. So all this has built up Minaal's personality and no point to guess that now she is at the verge of point that she does not even like to have her father's name after her own. You may call her behaviour a bit abnormal but I feel if someone acts normal in abnormal circumstances, he is basically abnormal.

Doris on the other hand is luckiest enough to have an ever loving father. Just like many other happy families, they are also cherishing a beautiful family life with a "mandatory" touch of sibling's candid fight. This one is another beautiful all-going-good family. I loved the way, how Doris's father guided her to stay away from drugs. He did it with absolute ease without being preachy and look it has an excellent effect on the girl. If this is how our parents guide us without breaking the nerves in the reality, believe me, it would have been heavens.

OK Coming back to this Doris story... It seems somewhere she can never digest something and that is to share her father with anyone else, not even with her very own brothers. She intentionally teases them and gains personal benefits which quite clearly states that she totally misuses her father's love.

Kabhi kabhi zarurat se zeyada khayal or mohabbat aap ko mazeed gham'zada ker deta hai kiyo ke is ki wajoohat se aap ko nafrat hoti hai. Self-pity shatters your self confidence thus ultimately results in absolute unhappiness and Minaal is surely going through the same phase.

Fact of the matter was Sikander married Suraya Kausar (Minaal's mother) just because of extreme emotional pressure constructed by his mother, however he initially denied it straight away. Not much to the surprise, after demise of his mother, he left his wife and moved abroad to enjoy his life with his first wife.

Her mother's condition is getting worse and she has one last wish to meet her husband for the very last time and Minaal has committed to provide her with this grand opportunity. She has managed to contact Sikander, the mutual father of Doris, Ans, Ahad and the newly revealed breaking news Asad & Minaal binte Surayya. This is how dreamland destroys, Doris is not the only princess of Papa-Land.

Sikander returns to Pakistan, only to find his wife dead , however he takes Minaal & Asad with him abroad. Important thing is, Minaal is no way in the mood of forgiving his actual father for what he did with his wife and children and now get ready for the fight of the century. It is Rapunzel vs Cinderella. It is Doris vs Minaal. Sikander Ahmed ke ghar mein Minaal binte Suraya ke alfaaz maazi ki sari talkhiyan liye, lalkaar ki tarah goonjney lagey...

Lance Armstrong said, "Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever." In the case of Minaal, revenge & destruction has now taken place of this pain, which she has been bearing for all those years.

And the story continues with Tom & Jerry fights between Sikander's two self obsessed daughters. Where Doris has an edge of being papa's sweety, the other one is not at all lean, as she is the wounded lioness, the one & only ruthless Minaal binte Suraya. Episode ends with the new entry, i.e. Minaal meets Ajram.

So the first episode of Raqsam was all about the misery that Minaal has gone through her life and a dictatorship sort of reign that Doris has enjoyed being the "only" daughter of the Family. Tension are inevitable as Doris meets with Minaal. I feel Minaal is here not to conquer anything, in fact she is trying to destroy the actual peace that Sikander has enjoyed with his family. Obviously no one can find this behaviour a justified ones but again, it is coming from someone who has suffered so much in her life.

This one is a very simple story of a kid going wrong courtesy parent's misadventures and I have a strong feeling that it will surely end up on a very nice soothing note. I predict a happily living ever-after ending here. Wait for the next episode.

Hussn ul Muaab Or (Saira Raza)- Episode 4 Review by Shoby

Hussn ul Muaab Or (Saira Raza)- Episode 4 Review by Shoby

Raquel Cepeda said, “The things that come to us easily, our propensities, are carried on a deep subconscious level into our next life. There are no coincidences.” Sometimes, these materialistic desires becomes a source of our journey towards the reality of things. I feel, love of Munna became a pathway for Maria to achieve the reality of Islam, the only true religion.

Munna hits an accident and while nursing her in the hospital, Maria happens to meet her sick father. He was worried and has been vouching her but looks like she has got what she was up to. Aik insan ki mohabbat ne mazhab tabdeel kerwa diya... Phir mazhab ne mujhey badal diya...

So unlikely what other were feeling, nothing on the Earth has been changed for Husnul Muaab. In fact, she has gone several steps ahead in search of sacrosanct. On the other hand, we get to see another side of Musa B. Although he is an established star a singing sensation but somewhere inside, he possess a very traditional belief system, especially when it comes to Islam and Pakistan.

In the desert, he is still dying. Dying of thirst, hunger, starvation and most importantly helplessness. But the best thing is, he has not lost the hope yet. I reckon, he is going through the most pertinent time of his life and he is therefore not at all going to die at least here. It is a make or break point of time for him and I feel, he will come out of the darkest patch with head touching the skies. Zindagi ko samajhney ke liye maut kjo samajhna zaruri hai.

Maria desperately wants to meet the dying father and we have the master stroke of this episode:

Abhi nahi pichtai ammi... Lakin agar daddy meri taraf se yeh hasrat liye marr gaey to phir aisa pichtaon gi jaisey suraj maghrib se tulu honey ke baad gunaah'gaar pichtaey ge. Thumbs up Saira.

See this happens when you restrict (almost bind) your children in a four by four wall boundary. Husnul was a rebel and she has doing the stuff just to stay in the business. She has brought a radio just to listen Musa B's tracks. Music that is simply forbidden and as far as the household of Husnul is concerned, it was prohibited and strict compliance was required. Anyways, Sibgha is having serious doubts , thus she is spying on her quite visibly.

To me, last episode of Husnul Muaab Or... was way more interesting with many innovative thoughts and awesome execution by author. Unfortunately, this episode lacks the thrill that Husnul Muaab was successfully carrying since the first episode. Story is still roaming around the same vicinity and only thing that has move forwarded is the story of Maria with the advent of Marry & Maggie who I suppose are going to play a key role in the upcoming episodes. Let's see, where hte story heads from here.

The Whispers (TV Series)... TV Show Review by Shoby

The Whispers (TV Series)... TV Show Review by Shoby

Aliens have arrived and they have literally invaded here. The biggest problem is, they are using world's most harmless & innocent entity (i.e. children) against humanity and turns them into the most dangerous weapons to achieve what they call "Dominance".

Just like its one-liner, ABC's science fiction drama series The Whispers is equally interesting courtesy its strong script & screenplay. What would one do, if someone uses his own little kids for personal gains, in fact to destroy the very  living world.

The very first scene of the pilot episode "X Marks The Spot" shows us the little adorable kid Harper talking to an invisible entity (called Drill) who asks her to play a game and become his friend forever. The game turns out to be the ugly incident hurting her mother near to death.

Special Agent Claire Bennigan has a deaf & mute son Henry and both of them are coping up with a three months old aeroplane crash accident which cost Claire's husband (Captain Sean Bennigan) his life. In the mean time, Defence Department operative Wes Lawrence visits Sahara desert to investigate the plane crash and finds out that pilot Sean is missing, whereas Sean is found standing near the locations where different incidents including a bomb explosion leaving Claire so confused.

Just like Harper, many other kids including Henry, Minx, Cassandra are also possessed by Drill as he makes all of them his friends. There is only one aim of Drill and that is to use these apparently harmless children against the people living in the world. Whats happens next in the show is a real treat to watch .

Although it was a sci-fi series but to me, it acted more as a super natural mystery thriller with handsome dose of drama & emotions. It visibly lacks so much of scientific approaches and relies more on the mystery thriller part. For all the thirteen episodes, the series never looses the grip. In fact interest of the viewer increases with every coming episode.

On the acting front, Lily Rabe (Claire Bennigan) and Barry Sloane (Wes Lawrence) were the winners in all aspects. Kylie Rogers (Millicent "Minx" Lawrence), Kyle Harrison Breitkopf (Henry Bennigan) and Abby Ryder Fortson (Harper Weil), these three children simply stole the show by their superb acting prowess.

To me, fourth episode of the show Meltdown was the showstopper. With an excellent narrative, this episode was high on drama and an absolute stunner with a memorable reunion of Bennigan family in the end. From this episode onward, the show takes a high jump and there starts a roller coaster of emotions, drama and thrill.

First season of the show ends on a very high note with aliens ending the game by taking the children along with them. In an attempt to save Henry, Claire goes in the light, thus going with the children.

Overall, it was an excellent series and really deserves a much needed second season as Game is not Over yet even after the Season's finale (Game Over). I am wondering why the second season was cancelled.

Begum Jaan (2017)- Movie Review by Shoby

Begum Jaan (2017)- Movie Review by Shoby

4.25 Hearts out of 5

It is quite common to see role of a courtesan in a period film and we have seen numerous period films where courtesans have a defining role. Begum Jaan is Srijit Mukherji's take on a courtesan's fight against the society to save her home (read brothel).

Films starts with a shocking incident happening in current India. The very first scene brings chills and makes us ready for something bigger. Next frame takes us to the brother of Bugum Jaan in 1947 ,exactly when Radcliffe draws a line to divide the subcontinent into two different states. The dilemma is like may other ordinary persons, Begum Jaan's brothel also gets affected and they are given a deadline of one month to vacate but this one woman army is not at all ready to forfeit. There starts a roller coaster of intense drama and extraordinary emotions. It was a delight to watch various characters from different part of the land talking in way different languages & dialects in the narrative.

To me the hero of the film is undoubtedly its script & screenplay. Srijit shows us the journey of this unorthodox story line in an immensely out of the box way. With heavy dose of nerve breaking incidents, the dialogues are almost pitch perfect complementing beautifully with the events. In fact, some of them really haunt you even after the proceedings end.

Vidya Balan is one of the finest actresses of the industry and she has proved her mettle yet again with this flawless performance in this author packed role. Supporting cast has played its part beautifully especially Illa Arun, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Pitobash Tripathy and Sumit Nijhawan deserves thousands of praises. Chunky Pandey and veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah also played their small cameos with authenticity.

Soundtrack of the film goes pretty smooth with the proceedings. I loved the way, Azaadiyan (sung by Rahat Fateh Ali & Sonu Nigam) was pictured. Prem Mein Tohre is a soothing track sung by Asha Bhosle. Overall, Anu Malik has managed to give a nice soundtrack with effective lyrics by Kausar Munir.

Cinematography is crisp. Action sequences have been choreographed with credibility, giving a special touch of emotional jolts in between.

Overall, Begum Jaan has turned out to be an excellent movie with bravura performances by the core cast amalgamated with perfect dialogues. It is a brutally honest and shockingly awesome watch.

Sheher'Zaad (Saima Akram Choudary)- Episode 4 Review by Shoby

Sheher'Zaad (Saima Akram Choudary)- Episode 4 Review by Shoby

Episode four of Sheherzaad is here and we have some fresh incidents to cope up with. First thing first, it is rather a shorter episodes as compared to the norms but no need to complaint because Ms. Saima Akram has already made it clear on her official page that she will reimburse the shortage in the upcoming episodes.

So, connecting right from the previous episode, Sandel is now dead silent after she returns from Noor Mehal. Reason is quite evident in front of all of us except the Meers and I am just guessing, what will happen to all of them when they will get the idea regarding the real "Bhoot" living in Noor Mehal who makes everyone ill. Stephen King was so true in his saying, Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win."

Surprise... the most eligible bachelor Hadi has visited the Meer House along with Saad as Arsal has insisted them so heavily that they cannot deny his real honest invitation but as they say, all that glitters is not gold. Hadi has been served a cup of Saltish tea, courtesy the head honcho of #GangOfGirls Dur e Shehwar

Bigger surprise was Dur e Shehwar's confession. She openly confesses her love for Hadi in front of Tuba. It was predictable but I feel it is still too early for the confession. May be a couple of more episodes, a few more meetings ending smoothly to the confession would have produced a much better effect.

Kinza calls Rumi and asks to meet her so that she can hand over some evidences which may become fruitful in declaring Rumi innocent. While she went escaping from Haroon's bad intent, she got kidnapped. Yes, you read it right. To add up the misery of Sherry and Tina, Rumi has been kidnapped by "Namaloom Afraad".

Sheherzaad has started working with Barrister Aliya Qureshi, who happens to be mother of Hadi. I guess, Hadi's zodiac signs just trembles whenever he meets with a female character, as every time he has met someone he or the other person has had a bad experience. This time, the meeting did not went good with Sheherzaad.

Episodes ends with Shahmeer witnessing something that was all sufficient to have him wide eyed.

Although it was a tiny episode as far as the events are concerned but it has once again managed well to keep the things simple. Story is still on its initial introductory stage and characters are evolving up, showing the real inner side of them.

Obviously I missed Humzaad and his conversation with Sherry but again I stand with the author. Shre will surely make up what is left in the upcoming episodes.

Famous Writer Aymal Raza's Exclusive Interview... Coming Soon Only at Shobywood

Famous Writer Aymal Raza's Exclusive Interview... Coming Soon Only at Shobywood

Purshootam, Saya e Gautam, Ibn e Maryam se keh do, KHUDA ke maujzey se... These lines still roam around my mind and give me chills since I have read them for the very first time. She is one of those very few writers who have achieved so much actually in the beginning of their writing career. The reason behind her immense fan following is her unorthodox writing style that makes her stand out from the lot. Reason why I praise her writing is because she is beyond these Saas-Bahu sagas. Whenever she writes it turns out to be either Taveez e Hubb or Piyaal Saaz. She is our very favorite fiction writer Ms. Aymal Raza.

All of her fans must have questions regarding how she writes & what does she think about her writing. Beside this, her fans would have been eager to know her own take on today's literature being written or read and they must have been looking for a place, where they can ask their favorite writer what they want to know about her. If this is the case with you, worry not, as Shobywood has the solution.

Believe it or not but yes the news is true. Ms. Aymal is coming very soon at our very own blog #Shobywood for an exclusive chit-chat. As many other first, this would be the very first time that she will be giving interview for an online global blog.

I thank Ms. Aymal for taking out time from her very busy schedule for the interview, which you all will surely be reading within few days. I know you all are going to kill me if I say, please wait. But believe me, you have to wait a little for this mega treat and I bet, this one is really worth waiting.

Keep visiting Shobywood for the updates.
