Raqsam (Aymal Raza)- Episode 1 Review by Shoby

Raqsam (Aymal Raza)- Episode 1 Review by Shoby

J.K. Rowling said, "“Numbing the pain for a while will make it worse when you finally feel it.” (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire).

Do you have any idea, what would have been the psychological stimulus behind someone who does not want to even give a space of his or her parental father's name as a surname post his/ her own name. Minaal bint e Suraya Kausar... The very first phrase of Aymal Raza's latest novel titled Raqsam sets the tune for the readers. The titled managed extremely well to garner my attention. I liked it.

She was a brought up by her mother and only she knows what it is like to be when someone asks questions like where is your father and when he is coming back to you. So all this has built up Minaal's personality and no point to guess that now she is at the verge of point that she does not even like to have her father's name after her own. You may call her behaviour a bit abnormal but I feel if someone acts normal in abnormal circumstances, he is basically abnormal.

Doris on the other hand is luckiest enough to have an ever loving father. Just like many other happy families, they are also cherishing a beautiful family life with a "mandatory" touch of sibling's candid fight. This one is another beautiful all-going-good family. I loved the way, how Doris's father guided her to stay away from drugs. He did it with absolute ease without being preachy and look it has an excellent effect on the girl. If this is how our parents guide us without breaking the nerves in the reality, believe me, it would have been heavens.

OK Coming back to this Doris story... It seems somewhere she can never digest something and that is to share her father with anyone else, not even with her very own brothers. She intentionally teases them and gains personal benefits which quite clearly states that she totally misuses her father's love.

Kabhi kabhi zarurat se zeyada khayal or mohabbat aap ko mazeed gham'zada ker deta hai kiyo ke is ki wajoohat se aap ko nafrat hoti hai. Self-pity shatters your self confidence thus ultimately results in absolute unhappiness and Minaal is surely going through the same phase.

Fact of the matter was Sikander married Suraya Kausar (Minaal's mother) just because of extreme emotional pressure constructed by his mother, however he initially denied it straight away. Not much to the surprise, after demise of his mother, he left his wife and moved abroad to enjoy his life with his first wife.

Her mother's condition is getting worse and she has one last wish to meet her husband for the very last time and Minaal has committed to provide her with this grand opportunity. She has managed to contact Sikander, the mutual father of Doris, Ans, Ahad and the newly revealed breaking news Asad & Minaal binte Surayya. This is how dreamland destroys, Doris is not the only princess of Papa-Land.

Sikander returns to Pakistan, only to find his wife dead , however he takes Minaal & Asad with him abroad. Important thing is, Minaal is no way in the mood of forgiving his actual father for what he did with his wife and children and now get ready for the fight of the century. It is Rapunzel vs Cinderella. It is Doris vs Minaal. Sikander Ahmed ke ghar mein Minaal binte Suraya ke alfaaz maazi ki sari talkhiyan liye, lalkaar ki tarah goonjney lagey...

Lance Armstrong said, "Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it lasts forever." In the case of Minaal, revenge & destruction has now taken place of this pain, which she has been bearing for all those years.

And the story continues with Tom & Jerry fights between Sikander's two self obsessed daughters. Where Doris has an edge of being papa's sweety, the other one is not at all lean, as she is the wounded lioness, the one & only ruthless Minaal binte Suraya. Episode ends with the new entry, i.e. Minaal meets Ajram.

So the first episode of Raqsam was all about the misery that Minaal has gone through her life and a dictatorship sort of reign that Doris has enjoyed being the "only" daughter of the Family. Tension are inevitable as Doris meets with Minaal. I feel Minaal is here not to conquer anything, in fact she is trying to destroy the actual peace that Sikander has enjoyed with his family. Obviously no one can find this behaviour a justified ones but again, it is coming from someone who has suffered so much in her life.

This one is a very simple story of a kid going wrong courtesy parent's misadventures and I have a strong feeling that it will surely end up on a very nice soothing note. I predict a happily living ever-after ending here. Wait for the next episode.
