Guidelines to Write Exceptionally Well- Special Article by Shoby

Guidelines to Write Exceptionally Well- Special Article by Shoby

As The Master Storyteller 2017 competition is announced, everyone has started brainstorming to write a masterpiece which may become their first step to the glory. But as E. L. Doctorow said, "Good writing is supposed to evoke sensation in the reader - not the fact that it is raining, but the feeling of being rained upon.". I also believe that writing a good story is not an easy task to do but it also does not demands some rocket science as well. Here are my guidelines, few suggestions in fact, which may act as a helping tool for all the young emerging writers.

First & foremost, Write Your Heart Out- Choose a topic or a genre that inspires and excites you. If something can not excite you, how it is supposed to excite others.

Be Original, Write Original- Look if I want to read an established writer, I would directly go & find out something written by him/ her own self. I don't need to read a copy cat. So don't try to copy anyone else. Write what naturally comes out from within you. Adopt a style that defines "You", not something that makes you look like a clone of someone else.

Don't Re-invent the Wheel- Us ne xyz ke hath thamtey huey us ki ankhon mein ankhen daal ker kaha, "XYZ! Main tumharey bagher rehney ka soch bhi nahi sakt"... XYZ hath churatey huey sharma ker apna bara dupatta sambhaltey huey no do geyarah ho gai... Doesn't it sound so cheezy. Well this is a very serious advice. Avoid already tested & tried formula. Write something unique, something fresh, something new.

Read Before Writing- This is perhaps the most important tool for writing good. If you want to write good, read something better. If you want to write something better, read the best. More you read, better you can write.

Conduct Research- You must do the basic research before writing anything. Research is mandatory in order to craft or sketch your characters, places and events so that it may look realistic.

Write The Realistic- Obviously, writings are fictitious and bear no resemblance to anyone. My point is, unless you are writing a Sci-Fi fantasy, no one will like to read about aliens. So try to place relatable characters in relatable society.

So these were only a few of the guidelines that should be considered while writing. I hope, these prove to be helpful for you.
