Haalim (Nemrah Ahmed)- Episode 2 Review by Shahbaz Ali Naqvi (Shoby)
I’m quick and smart as I can be.
Try and try, but you can’t catch me!
Mouse Deer sang his song as he walked through the forest.
(Mouse Deer and Tiger)
Stories of many trickster animals are famous around the world and the favorite one of Malaysian & Indonesian is this Mouse Deer, an animal about the size of a cat, living in the woods of Africa, Asia, and many Pacific islands. The mouse deer are herbivores and eats only plants, but lots of animals eat the mouse deer. To stay alive, these mouse deer need to be quick and smart. That is why the Indonesians and Malaysians have made Mouse Deer their favorite trickster. Coming towards Haalim, is it OK to call Taliya Muraad, a mouse deer. Let us explore this in Ghayal Ghazaal (The Injured Deer).
Second Episode of Haalim can be beautifully summarized in this one sentence, "Agar tum jan'na chahtey ho ke koi insan kis maqam pe khara hai to dekho ke us ke khawab kiya hain??? Insan woh hota hai jo us ka sab se bara khawab hota hai...". Now see where both of our dreamers stand right now and you will judge what their positioning is. And yes, soon they are going to be joined by another dreamer.
Patrick McNamara (PhD in Human Neuropsychology) said, I want to entertain the possibility that some continuity of content is due to the dreams themselves. For that to be possible, it seems that we would need to entertain the possibility that dreams either draw on a specialized memory system only available to the dreaming brain, or that dreams can access selected memory systems that are typically unavailable to the waking brain."
We came to know in the pilot episode that Taliya is dreaming and this episode further elaborated that she is dreaming in continuity. I should better say that her dream consists of multiple episodes and we have seen two more installments of this mega- dream in "Ghayal Ghazaal". The dream depicts this one statement. Taaliya needs Fateh and so does him, in order to achieve the glory but there is an addition now, a third person's entry.
In another dream (of the same series) Taaliya sees herself brutally slaughtering a deer... Go on readers...Nemrah has established the platform... Continue drawing parallels about interpretations of these sequences... To me, this sequence was resembling a lot like the dream sequences of Will Graham (in Hannibal).
Looks like all is not well at Fateh's end. At one place people think that us ke itney chahney waley hain, us pe log itna kuch lutaney ko tayar hotey hain ke us ko in cheezon mein dilchasbi hi nahi. On the contrary his own wife thinks, Tumharey Twitter followers ke ilawa humarey sath koi nahi khara. His wife asks her to endorse her brother in the election campaign and quit.
Time to meet the newest entry in #Haalim Adam... the body-man of Fateh... A to be dreamer I reckon... Tiger Woods (American Golfer) said, "Achievements on the golf course are not what matters, decency and honesty are what matter." And almost same is the lesson that Adam's mother teaches him. Tum ALLAH se dartey raho or yeh socho ke tum ne puri sachai, imandari or or wafadari se apney malik ki khidmat ki.
Adam is surely going to play an integral role in the plot. He is the only person in the whole Fateh's brigade who literally want nothing from him in return of his honest service. Rare to find this sort of honesty in today's world though. No points to guess that this very Adam is our third person that featured in Taliya's dream.
Ghareeb ko bhi mafaad chahiye or ameer ko bhi...
Phir main kiya banu...
#Bodyman
To steal the bracelet, Taliya and Datin cons again to enter Haalim's place. A nice little sit-com arises here which leaves a smile to the readers. This time Taaliya tastes a bit of failure but #Haalim always have some more game plans. Thief loins right rush, so she grabs an invitation of Asra's upcoming charity event ( an art exhibition).
Looks like the collage is now complete. All the three components of dream gets completed in Asra's charity exhibition as Taliya comes face to face with Fateh and Adam and Adam knows she is the same girl, a servant at Tangu Kamil's place.
Nemrah moved the story in a nice brisk pace and this one is now building up more interest. This episode was much better in terms of dialogue pitching. See how beautifully she has expressed one of the dilemmas that we as a nation are facing today,
Aulaad ko wirasat mein party nahi di jati... A sentence written in immense grief. This shows the aesthetic intensity of the author. She clarified a universal truth without making it loog as ugly as a taunt. Well done Nemrah.
Fateh: Tumhain maloom hai, mulk ke liye sab se khatarnaak admi kon hota hai?
Adam: Corrupt hukmaran.
Fateh: Haan, magar us se bhi zeyada siyasi jahil...
Just like what we witnessed many times in #Namal Nemrah Ahmed uses the continuity of cinematography. Two frames in one scene simultaneously. Watch the back to back run of two frames. Looks likes we are watching a movie with a flashback embedded in a primary scene, when Fateh was moving to visit Shams and Taaliya was explaining Danti about the whereabouts of Fateh. Excellent.
This episode had some fine little light moments... Patla honey ki surgery... Humarey mohallay mein... They made the read easy and never let us get bored of the whole proceedings. Overall, this episode is much better than the previous one. Stage is all set for Taaliya Murad & Fateh to coincide and reach the glory. Interesting to see what part Adam has to play in here.
