Rangoon (2017)- Music Review by Shoby

Rangoon (2017)- Music Review by Shoby

It is not possible that we can hear a movie from Vishal Bhardwaj and it does not have lyrics penned by legendary poet/ lyricist Gulzar sb. They have given us gems of the songs in past and some of the tunes are truly unforgettable. Apart from many others, I personally love O Saathi Re (Omkara), Tu Mere Rubaru (Maqbool), Bekaran (7 Khoon Muaaf). So now they are back with the new product called Rangoon, a period drama. Lets see, what the album has in it for us.

Bloody Hell (Sunidhi Chauhan)- When you see the name of Sunidhi Chauhan attached to a song, the bars of expectation increase up  so many times and she has crooned this Vishal Bhardwaj's groovy composition in the mood which was just perfect for this type of track. Gulzar sb's lyrics gets your attention right from the very beginning and see how beautifully they go throughout the sound... Us ne do ankhon se mera naam liya angrezi mein... Khulam khula do honton ka jaam piya angrezi mein. This one song is a must have in my car's music collection. Girtey girtey us ne mujh ko thaam liya... A sure short instant hit.

Yeh Ishq Hai (Arijit Singh)- For all the lovers of soothing melodious tunes just like Bekaran, O Saathi Re & many more, this one is surely for you. Arijit Singh was the ideal choice for the track or should I say, this was a tailor made composition for him. This composition takes you into a nostalgia. Sahil pe sir rakh ke darya hai, soya hai... Sadiyon se behta hai, ankhon ne boya hai... Yeh Ishq Hai Re... Near the end, the songs turns into pure Sufi tracks with lyrics Jaagey to Tabrezi, boley to Rumi hai (perhaps referring to the famous saints Shah Shams Tabrez and Jalal-ud-Din Rumi)

Mere Miyan Gaye England (Rekha Bhardwaj)- It is Vishal's take on Mere Piya Gaey... This time, "miyan" has gone to Englaaand and this peppy track sets your mood accordingly. It apparently looks like such a track which will be included in the live stage performance somewhere in the film's heart. I loved the use of Shehnai & trumpet in the song. The song had a huge feel of 7 Khoon Muaaf's track Darling.

Tippa (Sukhwinder Singh, Rekha Bhardwaj, Sunidhi Chauhan, O.S. Arun)- Well I was waiting for some real unorthodox lyrics, something that is trademark of Gulzar and this is probably what I was looking. It is an interesting sweet challenge to catch the lyrics of this very unconventional track.

Ek Dooni Do (Rekha Bhardwaj)- This one is yet another situational track that has been created to take the script's proceeding ahead. This might help the story to move further.

Alvida (Arijit Singh)- Just like Omkara had "Naina" sung by maestro Ustad Rahat fateh Ali Khan, Rangoon features this gloomy slow melody sung by Arijit. Some lyrics that has the penchant to modify your mood right away.

Julia (Sukhwinder Singh, K.K., Kunal Ganjawalla, Vishal Bhardwaj)- Jeem Pesh Laam Wow... Aen Sheen Qaaf... A typical Gulzar's way of projecting a phenomenon important for the situation of the movie. It introduces us with the main character, the much powerful "Julia" in a style.

Chori Chori (Rekha Bhardwaj)- It is a naughty track in which the girl is seriously teasing the boy as she has caught him red-handedly while he might have been having a sneak-peak to his beloved. Looks like this one will work as another stage performance in the film.

Yeh Ishq Hai (Female Version) (Rekha Bhardwaj)- More slower than the original version at the beginning, this one is a sad, gloomy track that takes the pace after few moments. Use of tabla & harmonium gives it a feel of qawali in the middle of the track.

Rangoon Theme- This is an instrumental just more than one & a half minute track, which will go along with the movie.

Be Still (Dominique Cerejo)- Lekha Washington has penned this English lyrical track and it is a nice track that takes you down the memory lane.

Shimmy Shake (Vivienne Pocha)- This one is also penned by Lekha Washington. This song has also the same feel as the other songs of the album, groovy & foot tapping.

Final Words: This album contains huge number of songs, twelve in total and it is not false to say that Vishal & Gulzar sb has become quite successful in providing us the product which not only goes well with the theme of the movie but also works good for the listeners especially for the fans of Gulzar's poetry & Vishal's compositions. Few of the songs are brilliantly penned and splendidly composed. My picks are Bloody Hell, Tippa, Alvida and Yeh Ishq Hai.

Yeh Fitoor Mera (Title Track)- Review by Shoby

Yeh Fitoor Mera (Title Track)- Review by Shoby

Three brilliant artists (Swanand Kirkirey, Amit Trivedi & Arijit Singh) meet together to create this beautiful song. Fitoor starring Aditya Roy Kapur & Katrina Kaif has this magical title track Yeh Fitoor Mera.

It has the flavor of typical Amit Trivedi's songs and it has a striking similarity to Mann'marziyan & Shikayaten from the film Lootera.

Video of the song shows some lovely moments from the film.

Sanam Re- Music Review by Shoby

Sanam Re- Music Review by Shoby

3.0 Hearts out of 5

Divya Khosla Kumar's debut directorial Yaariyan had one of the biggest hit soundtrack the year it was released. Therefore, a lot of expectations are attached to her second film Sanam Re. With music & lyrics featuring various artists, lets see, how the end product looks like.

Gazab Ka Hai Yeh Din- Album starts with this youth based track, depicting dreams & enthusiasm today's youth has. Manoj Muntashir has penned the lyrics whereas Amaal Malik has composed it. It is a very unlike of Arijit's songs and may appeal the audience only in the movie. Use of Guitars in the middle of the track is awesome.

Sanam Re- Title track of the film is the second in the album. When two most sensational artists of this age Arijit & Mithoon join hands to croon a soothing composition with truly beautiful lyrics, the end result becomes "Sanam Re". It has the tendency to make you go nostalgic. Use of modern rock musical instruments With such soft lyrics, this track is surely a treat for the music lovers.

Hua Hain Aaj Pehli Baar- Malik duo (Amaal & Armaan) along with Palak Muchhal behind the mic to give this yet another serene track. Soft romantic lyrics like Main tum se ishq karney ki, ijazat RAB se laya hoon composed with excellent musical arrangement makes this song as a perfect beautiful love ballad. This one should be warmly welcome by the young couples in the upcoming Valentines.

Humne Pee Rakhi Hai- Looks like one party song is mandatory in every other movie now a days and this album is no different in this regard as it has this one which will be the first choice of the youth on dance floors. Typical desi party lyrics with jumping musical arrangements make this one as an out & out party track. Lyrics & composition are very much similar to Johny Johny from Its Entertainment.

Kya Tujhe Ab Ye Dil Bataye- Pakistani pop singer Falak Shabbir croons this slow tempo tune with sad lyrics. This track gives a glimpse of the pain & grief of a broken heart.

Tere Liye- Mithoon with another sensation Ankit this time for this yet another slow sad track. This one depended upon unique pitch of Ankit's usual voice. Although it apparently looks like a situational track, however it couldn't click to me the way it was supposed to do.

Tum Bin- Nightingale Shreya Ghoshal sings this yet another version of famous poem Tum Bin. Although earlier Tum Bin was successful in getting a status of cult, this time Rashmi Virag has written some equally beautiful lyrics & Shreya has sung it with all the required emotions.

Chhote Chhote Tamashe- Everyone's favorite always smiling singer Shaan is back with another fun track. This song has a deep meaning hidden inside its innocently naughty lyrics that life is all about living it to the fullest & to make every moment wonderful & worth remembering.

On the whole, album of Sanam Re succeeds in providing what is promised by a Divya Kumar's film.My picks are Sanam Re and Hua Hain Aaj Pehli Baar.

Sanam Re (Title Track)- Song Video Review by Shoby

Sanam Re (Title Track)- Song Video Review by Shoby

Title track's video of Divya Khosla Kumar's upcoming coming of age romance Sanam Re is by every means a signature Divya Kumar's song. It almost looks like she has started Sanam Re just from where she stopped in Yaariyan's Baarish.

With Pulkit Samrat appearing to be a teenage lover of a sweet next door girl Yami Gautam, this video shows cherishing the romance of first love with pain & grief of loosing it. Shot in perfect snowfalls & romantic rains in spectacular locations (just like Baarish & Love Me Thoda Or in Yaariyan), this one is soothing & serene.

Sung by sensational Arijit Singh in his usual husky romantic voice, Sanam Re is a melodious tune composed by Mithoon.

After listening this track, one really cant wait to listen & watch more of the songs from this movie.
